Someone who is a doctor at a Public health centre in Lagos said the number of child rape cases that land on their desk is more than adult rape cases. And that the number of files are so many and most parents don't want to go to the police. So what we read in the news is less than a quarter of actual rape cases.

Come to think of it, there is the man who used to live close to us in our old neighborhood and he had a shop there for close to 20yrs.when I called home not long ago, they were gisting me that he went to jail. For child molesting. He molested someone's househelp and the lady wasn't ready to hear "let's settle it amicably". So they locked him up and that's when the can of worms opened. There were so many cases against him some dating back to when he first moved there and we never knew all the while.
Some mothers covered up to avoid putting their daughters to shame and some just didn't have the means to pursue justice against him.

A sane society would have looked inwards and started asking parents to train their wards to speak up if they feel unsafe and start educating people on how Rape is a moral sin and a crime. Train your children to avoid being raped and also NOT to rape others. But the minute one starts that conversation publicly, men (who are the majority of the abusers caught) will feel threatened and take it personally that we are calling him in particular a rapist, and start screaming and shrieking up and down and yelling "feminist". Then the cycle continues and 2 days later, another child abuse case will hit NL frontpage and we will all condemn with no solution at hand.

I'm thankful for the Mods who move this cases to the frontpage. Let us see the evil in our society and start talking about it.
