Why spend 500k and above on school fees when they're people out of school for 5 to 10k. Isn't that crassly wicked? I mean, we have over 80 million people in this country living below $1 dollar per day.

I attended a federal school that happen to be close to a school that pays 1.2 million per term as school fees, and I tell you, their students are no better than ours.
their intellectual prowess is not alien to us, cos we interact during inter-school sports, science and maths competition. I'm not even talking about their dumbness and naïvety when it comes to facing real life.

Education is mindset. one can school in a place that pays highest and still come out super dumb, just like one can attend normal school and come out unmatch intellectually.

Our society can buttress this fact.

from every aspect, 500k per term for secondary school, is too much. that will mean 1.5m per year, from JSS1 to SS3, that will be 9million just to get WAEC or GCE? and most likely parents may have more one child in secondardy school at a time. Let say 2, that will mean you are spending 3m, per year. what is the average salary for the middle class in Nigeria? how many people can afford that? only people you do not work for their money can afford it. lets not pretend that it is not too much. it is too much. in most countries where education is better, they dont spend that much for high school.

we are not talking about University Education.

Well....

I'll consider the fees of a school "too much" if:
--- the quality of training received doesn't measure up with the highest standards for checking student performance generally

--- there's unnecessary spending for learning that is easily accessible at a fair amount...

....Truth be told....

I still prefer our public schools....

When church people sow seeds for church school project, and at the end of the day, they can't afford to pay for the school fee. Because churches now charge more than private schools.

it all depends on the size of your pocket. if you struggle to pay, then it's too much. if you can easily afford it, then it's not too much.

When the school can no longer or does not set one in a position to begin to learn for oneself.

A school fee is said to be high when and of this following happens:
1: you pay for a poor academic standard of the school.
2: the school doesn't have facilities yet they demand money for thses facilities.
3: when you pay so much and the school still go on strike.

This is what education should be!

We can't bring change if we can't initiate change by our own innate power;
Neither can we overtake advanced nations till we learn to raise researchers and not just students.

It all depends on your income, class and individual perception as what you perceive as expensive might be below moderate for another class.

Late Obafemi Awolowo introduced free education for a purpose. The purpose is not for the wealthy, but for folks who can't afford the money.

A school fees is considered too much if the students from that school are dullards.
^^^ This is the right answer to the Op's question. To add a lil to it, the dullest person in that class must be the best when compared to other students in another school. The teachers must inculcate knowledge in students' brain whether they wana learn or not. The teachers must find a way cos 500k per term ain't beans

How much school fees can be considered too much for you to pay for your ward/child?I had the opportunity to be at a venue for common entrance recently. The interesting thing is though the amount charged is in the region of half a million naira per term. The interesting part is that some parents think it is cheap and very affordable. So will you be willing to set a limit to what you are willing to pay as schools fees or is there no limit?
It depends on ur monthly income n therefore individual specific

Get your facts right before you start spewing trash online
vizkiz:
Your question is straight forward but answering this is kindda complex if we put the present situation of a country into consideration.

To some 500k for school fees in a term is just too much while to some others, 5k per term is unaffordable. We are in a messed up economy bro even public schools are not fee anymore.

In ekiti state for example, you see patents owing school fees for 2terms because the economy in that state is dead already...even while the amount is below 15k they still owe and when their debts becomes unrecoverable (bad debts) they withdraw their child to a new school

So looking at my evaluation I will say if a parent can't afford to pay his/her child's school fees with ease, it is too much

your question is funny though..
it all depends on your financial capacity...
every parent want to give his child the best, some can afford 100k som others 1mi;
pay your childs fees based on how capable you are finiancially,, but the trick is mak sure not to over stretch your finances while trying to give your child the best...

case closed!!!

It is too expensive when the aim of the school is to bleed as much money out of the parents by any means necessary.....regardless of the quality of education it provides. Church schools are very good at that.
Re: When Is School Fees Considered "Too Much"? by ifedayoifedapo(f): 9:44am On Jun 02, 2016
I disagree totally. To me High school education should be given priority. When they miss it at that level, they miss it forever. Give a child the best high school education and send to a good affordable federal university..You will get the best
Vanquay:
Almost $2000 for highschool is too much for a highschool education, it's not like the "degree" is useful.

Well it becomes too much if it's Fees in a year is more than 30% of your total income.

For Universities, there's no limit...Get student loans you are confident of paying back in 10 years

Education is a Gift and if your fortunate to have parents like mine who sacrificed for you have it you are Blessed. For my future kids no amount is too much for me if its a good proven school. I want to provide them a global education and the truth is you have to invest in your children also allowing them to follow their true passion.

Brave parents everywhere God Bless
