Stumbled upon this piece on the internet, few might have come across it,but thought sharing it and let the Christians prove it otherwise ..known that Judaism is 3800yrs and Christianity. Is close to 2000 years, yet Judaism is cast away.. Christianity was said to have borrowed its central myths and ceremonies from other ancient religions. The ancient world was rife with tales of virgin births, miracle-working saviors, tripartite gods, gods taking human form, gods arising from the dead, heavens and hells, and days of judgment. In addition to the myths, many of the ceremonies of ancient religions also match those of that syncretic latecomer, Christianity. To cite but one example (there are many others), consider Mithraism, a Persian religion predating Christianity by centuries. Mithra, the savior of the Mithraic religion and a god who took human form, was born of a virgin; he belonged to the holy trinity and was a link between heaven and Earth; and he ascended into heaven after his death. His followers believed in heaven and hell, looked forward to a day of judgment, and referred to Mithra as "the Light of the World." They also practiced baptism (for purification purposes) and ritual cannibalism—the eating of bread and the drinking of wine to symbolize the eating and drinking of the god's body and blood. Given all this, Mithra's birthday should come as no surprise: December 25th; this event was, of course, celebrated by Mithra's followers at midnight. Mithraism is but the most striking example of the appearance of these myths and ceremonies prior to the advent of Christianity. They appear—in more scattered form—in many other pre-Christian religions. Lets not forget Osiris did the same things. He was born of a virgin, was considered the first true king of the people, and when he died he rose from the grave and went to heaven. Osiris's son, Horus, was known as the "light of the world", "The good shepherd", and "the lamb". He was also referred to as, "The way, the truth, and the life." His symbol was a cross. Krishna had a miraculous conception that wise men were able to come to because they were guided by a star. After he was born an area ruler tried to have him found and killed. His parents were warned by a divine messenger, however, and they escaped and was met by shepherds. The boy grew up to be the mediator between the so called God and man. |

@ braithwaite Mithra was born of a virgin? Who said he was born of a virgin? Most of the stuff said about mithra are just made up on the Internet by laymen. Here's a good essay on it : http://christianthinktank.com/copycat.html |

Liar!!! Mithras was born from a rock and not a virgin. Osiris' mother was Nut, sky goddess and consort of Ra, so he being born of a virgin was made up. For the crucifixion story, hanging on a pole was a common way of executing criminals. Crucifixion is not a made up story or a copy. Jesus actually existed. The similarity between the Osiris story and Jesus' ressurection is only a co-incidence. |

Richirich713: Mithra was being born of "Anahita, the Immaculate Virgin Mother of the Lord Mithras". Anahita did conceived the Mithras from the seed of Zarathustra preserved in the waters of Lake Hamun in the Persian province of Sistan. Which is really a contradictory traditions, mithra is also born without any sex but from the rock wall of a cave. One must know that there were separate Mithra traditions that may have changed and been adapted over time. |

Richirich713: You're diverting.. the said topic mentioned borrowed.. and no any reference to whether he's a virgin.. but main talking point why it's not so special when Christians do mention birth without sex..that's when the issue of Mithra comes in |
| Re: Was Christianity A Borrowed Religion? by Richirich713: 6:07pm On Jun 02, 2016 |
braithwaite:Wat? How am I diverting when u claim the virgin birth was borrowed? U claimed his mother was Anihita. braithwaite:Are u for real? Christians got the virgin birth from a pagan dude born from a rock from a rock. |
