Is repentance necessary to be saved?

Yes of course, it is! Infact many so called Christian are not saved because they have not repented.
Repentance means a change of mind which of course leads to a change of actions.
However not every repentance is a repentance unto salvation.

Only God can give this repentance

Acts 11:18
When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

This repentance has to do with putting away our ways and thoughts and then accepting God's way.

People ways are a product of their belief system.
Traditions, religion, are all belief system.

Your belief can be hinged on facts or not on facts they are all equally belief system.

But people cannot put away these belief systems without a good persuasion or conviction.

The holy Spirit through the gospel convicts men of their sins, or simply points them to true love which is God.
To the self righteous the holy spirit points out their sin, to others he points them to the goodness of God.

The repentance that lead to salvation, is not just trying to stop sinning no!

It is rejecting our supposed goodness or righteousness, sometimes people want to genuinely do something good, or they want to make society better but they do not want to follow God's way.

For example for the family the bible stipulate that husband should love their wife as christ love the church, this is God's plan on how to run a family.

God's plan in relationship is that do not repay evil for evil but rather overcome evil with good but because humans follow their ways, thinking that they are smarter than God or have attained a higher knowledge than the bible they prefer their own way.

There is problem in the world today because human being do not accept God's ways.

True repentance is one that rejects all human knowledge, wisdom, goodness righteousness, counting them as dung for the excellence of christ.

True repentance accept God's ways but reject man's ways.
This is the only repentance that can lead humans to faith in christ.

It is only when you have rejected your ways that you can truly trust in Jesus only.

Isaiah 55:7-9 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

You are correct, The reason is many in their heart do not want to believe that only God is true and every man is liar.

Romans 3:4
God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

Hey dear. I want to point you to something. The Holy Spirit doesn't convict believers of their sins...whether self-righteous people or not. He convicts non-believers of their sin.

John 16:8
[8]And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. NLT

Notice that it is SIN not SINS. Meaning that He convicts of a single sin. And the next verse says:

The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in me.... Christians already believe in Jesus. So that conviction is not for believers. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of their sin(non-believers). You'd say that the Holy Spirit doesn't dwell in them which is true but 1 Corinthians 14:24 has your answer.

Now, the Holy Spirit convicts believers of only God's righteousness. John 16:10 says:

Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more.... now this is for believers. And most especially self-righteous people. Righteousness is already available but they think they have to work for it. The Holy Spirit convicts believers of God's righteousness that is already available. Available where? In Christ Jesus.

The last conviction is the coming judgement that is meant for the devil. Verse 11 says(KJV puts it better):

Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

Hello, thanks for your comment but op didnt say the Holy Spirit convicts believers of their sins but rather men which in this case represent the unbelieving world.

A Christian is not self righteous, and a self righteous person is not a Christian.

Romans 10:3
For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

A self righteous person can be a religious or irreligious person who believes in their own righteous or moral uprightness, good works rather on the sacrifice of Jesus.

Being religious is not the same as being a Christian.

Two questions for you:

1. What is jesus saving you from?

2. Why do you feel the need for a saviour outside of yourself?

In the old testament the Jews sacrificed animals as sin offerings.
Why do they sacrificed those animals, of what use is it if they dont need a saviour

First and foremost, it is rude to answer a question with a question. .

Secondly God approved animal sacrifice for unintentional sins. For all others, all that was required was confess and forsake. (Sincere repentance).

The animal was a she goat less than one year old. Without blemish. NEVER A HUMAN BEING.

Well I m genuinely sorry if it is offensive to you.
For your second part,
No, both intentional and unintentional sins are to go with sacrifices not just confessing sins.
Leviticus 5:3-6 Or if he touch the uncleanness of man, whatsoever uncleanness it be that a man shall be defiled withal, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty.

Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these.

And it shall be, when he shall be guilty in one of these things, that he shall confess that he hath sinned in that thing:

And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD for his sin which he hath sinned, a female from the flock, a lamb or a kid of the goats, for a sin offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his sin.

Animals blood was shed, the reason why blood has to be shed in the first place is that according to God's justice life must go for a life.

Deuteronomy 19:21
And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

This is the principle of equity,
It is not equity for animal life to go for for a man's life.
For there to be equity, three conditions must be fulfilled.
1. The sacrifice must be equal to the sin
2. The sacrifice must be perfect, this is because God gave man a perfect life and God himself is perfect.
3. The sacrifice must be willing, you know that no animal will willingly present themselves to be slaughtered, the only animals that are near to willingness are the dove and the lamb or a female lamb.

Animals can never meet these three conditions hence sacrifice was repeated every year.

No, but Jesus isnt just human but he is also God, so he is qualified to sacrifice himself.

Was that difficult to answer?.

So....you know a man can not die for the sins of another. It is against Gods laws..Ezekiel 18. So jesus dying is of no use to any body.

Jesus came as the lamb that takes away the sins of the word, not as a father to a son.
Ezekiel 18, is between a father and a son.
Jesus sacrifice is the only way, remember without shedding of blood sins cannot be remitted, so your sins will only be upon you forever when you do accept the sacrifice of Jesus.

Jesus is the only perfect man without sin that ever lived, He meant all the requirements and hence qualified, and the fact that he was a God-man means that his life can cover perfectly the cost of our sins.

I have read it. It is talking about a suffering servant. Nobody died.

Isaiah already told you in 41: 5-9 that the servant is israel. How did you factor in " jezus"?

Nobody died? common why living in denial,

Isaiah 53:8-10 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

Israel is under judgment for her sins,

Daniel 9:16
O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us.

Therefore Isaiah 53 is not referring to Israel.

Unlike Israel that is under judgment for their sins, the righteous servant suffer for the sins of others.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

The only righteous man that ever exist is Jesus.
