QUA IBOE river has nothing to do with igbos. The relationship between Igbos and the Ibibios/Efiks was domiciled around the slave trade at arochukwu and the calabar river.

QUA IBOE river is where Akwa Ibom is derived from. It's a European contraption of an Efik word which means Ibom river literally.

That said, igbos and ibibios/Efiks are peaceful neighbours unlike what others in this thread are trying to portray.

the culture of southern abia state is very similar to efik/Ibibio.

not to mention arochukwu. I'm talking of the bende area.

they practice ekpe system and not ozo. during festivals the incantation to bring out masquerade is ancient efik.

not to talk of names like ekaette etc the abiriba people bear. and the Igbo mixed with a lot of efik they speak.

in fact if that area was carved into SS. they will start the denial game ikweere people play. just due to the accidental map adjustments occassioned by diverse factors which I would rather not go into.

I got my facts directly from an Ibibio who fought your Nigerian soldiers so my facts are right. I'll listen to the solider who is from that side of the country who saw with his own eyes what transpired, who till this day is still emotionally scared from it. I'll believe that over Nigerian army that are known to lie as we can see from all the events happening in nigeria recently. The Ibibio and Annang didn't join to spy against biafra, majority of them were forced to it in effort to stop the Nigerian army from slaughtering their people...some of the biafran soldiers on their side that was captured were tortured either physically or emotionally using their family members until they agreed to be double agents. Only a handful happily did it, the rest did out of fear. It's the almost identical to the same thing that happened in Asaba where the people were being forced to denouce igbo origin and any who didn't was killed in cold blood...my grandfather was a huge example of that.

Alabi for one is not AK, Alabi claims he's anioma. Alabi was among the people that committed several killing in Aniomaland starting from Agbor down to Asaba. I'm Anioma so this one isn't a he say, she say thing....this part of the story comes from several survivors of the Asaba massacre as well as the ones that happened in ogwashi, agbor, etc. So who told you the man defended people of the land? may thunder fire whoever did.

bros get the fact from annang people that were alive during the war. I did mine that's why I love the book. Do u even know that a genocide was committed by BA on a town in what we now know as Edo state cis they were Muslims? Lemme ask u have u even read the book, its on the spot account of the war. I asked from both side before concluding.....it will be good if u do sir

Out of all SS group, Cross river and Akwa Ibom were the biggest allies of Biafra you dimwit. Majority of the soliders that were stationed in those two states during the war were predominately from that area. I know this personally because my best friend's grandfather was a Biafran solider who was stationed in Akwa-ibom and according to him, his entire platoon were filled with mostly ibibio, annang and efik (mind you, he's ibibio himself).

Go sit somewhere with your BS.
Hell your government murdered them in the guise of attacking Igbo. Go and read Adekunle post where he boasted he will kill any Biafran he sees. The reporter informed him that majority of his prisoners were not igbo, which adekunle agreed upon. Who the Bleep you think those were? Chinese? Incase you aren't aware majority were minority SS tribes...again this coming from an ibibio solider. According to my best friend's grandfather, your imcompetent government went on a killing spree in their territory in guise of fighting "Igbo" and when the community couldn't provide any statement, they attacked them and accused them of being Biafran soliders and sympathizers. It was pretty much the exact same thing they did in Asaba.

Finally grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin at SS support Buhari and APC. Dude which SS groups? Excluding Edo and the greedy politicians, which SS groups? Infact name one state in SS, excluding edo, that Buhari won the votes. Name one state, excluding edo, that APC won any election? Hell I'm from delta state and I know how much you are despised in that state and I will not be shocked if that's the same state in all SS state, excluding edo. Keep deluding yourself Lmfaoooooooo

Brother why do you waste time with some of dis Yoruba people? Everything Igbo de pain dem. Igbos say let us go e pain them. Igbos say let us stay e pain dem. That Igbos intermarry their neighbours (such as my own Brother married to Calabar woman) de pain them. That Igbos plenty for states like Delta, Rivers etc de pain them. You will see their divide and rule tactics against Igbos on full display. That Igbos even trade with their direct neighbors de pain dem. That Igbos full Lagos de pain dem. That Igbos trade in the North de pain dem. Have plenty of Hotels in Abuja de pain dem? Igbos hold national office na dem go de attack de person. You can expect dem to full Igbo threads to spew thrash or hate.

No mind some of this Yoruba. They have hitched themselves to North West that will never really respect them bc they northerners no say rest of south is a no go for Yoruba.

Which book you mean the one from the murderer that committed genocide...infact, I wish you are here, I wan slap you small. I wan slap you for this your suggestion. While I'm at it, you didn't get the story from Annang people, you got your version from Alabi, who is not annang.

Secondly I don't care what BA did to Edo people, whether true or false...I don't care. cause I know from the survivors mouth that Edo people were the set of civilians that repeatedly dragged anioma to be killed by the NA. They equally pointed out their neighbors who are SE for them to be killed by the military therefore, any sympathy that I was supposed to have went out of the door when I heard those people wicked act.

Any non-Nigerian that visits nairaland for the first time to read Nigerian news and people's comments will definitely know that Nigerians are NOT united!

Frankly speaking, I don't understand the idea of forcing people who don't want to live as one to live together. Smh
Bros the issue with Nigerians isn't black and white.the truth is despite all this quibbles here and there, the country doesn't even come close to breaking up anytime soon.we are actually more united than we think.for instance the Igbo pple who look the most active in secession chants are the most scattered of all the 250 plus tribes in Nigeria and we all know most don't plan on returning home.now tell me how such people can truly pursue secession. All we need in Nigeria is a little restructuring and for our politicians to be a little selfish and actually try to make peace with each other
God bless the federal republic of Nigeria

I'm Igbo BTW, and you should understand why the Igbos are so scattered. After the war, Gowon proposed the 3R and never implemented anything. In the quest to survive, the Igbos had to run to other regions. Now, they have relatives scattered all over the place.

And secondly, the Igbos believe in moving out to take business opportunities. That's why no Nigerian tribe is into business today like the Igbos.

Moving forward, the present Nigerian structure isn't working. Obviously, Nigeria needs true federalism or regionalism. I hear the challenge, from the last confab, is that north central people don't want affiliation with Hausa/Fulani domination because their capital will be in Kaduna.

Some Nigerians like the Obong of Calabar, the last emir of kano Ado Bayero get sense others don't. These rulers with sense make sensible statements engendering peaceful coexistence and calm. Can you imagine the Deji of Akure or Oba of Lagos showing concern for kidnapped Igbos like this Obong??

The two posters above me are yorubaa and love news like this!

I laugh at Hausa-Fulani and yoruba divide and rule tactics...as expected plant discord between Igbos and their SS neighbors, as they fight each other, Hausa-Fulani and yoruba will continue to steal the oil, just as they have been doing for over 50yrs. Any SS or Igbos that falls for this deja vu should be dealt mercilessly with...we should know better by now. They did this in Bayelsa a month, they realize it didn't work...people are now wiser, now they are bringing it closer to the borders of one of the staunchest supporters of Igbos. This evil people will never let us be in peace...Igbos have been living peacefully with Ibibio, Efik, Annang and Ijaws for thousands of years without a single problem, it shall continue to be like that whether you hausa-fulani and yorubaa like it not.

Fear, this people have so gotten used to profiting from crude oil from the delta that they would go to any lengthy to stop any close association between the Igbo and others in the south south.

Crude oil in the Niger delta has made them crazy.

Your comment shows your level of intellectual depth, for your information, on monthly basis, the money fg is getting from Ondo state, an oil producing state and Lagos state is far more than what fg is giving all the SW states combined in form of allocation. Divide Nigeria and see us prosper, we have done it in the past, we can do it again
