Geo how far? The whole thing is just simple. UNIben won't have a general cut off but rather it will be a specific cut off for each department. E.g 290 for medicine, 280 for law, 250 for pharmacy, 240 for mass com and 230 for educational courses. That's just what is gonna happen
Exactly! So pume or no pume... There is always a way to screen!

It's now left for students to put their all into the jamb exam... Without having divided hopes on another exam!

Guys let's read the details of that meeting as reported by This Day newspaper.

For me I think postutme has not been scrapped, at least not this year. (my opinion though)

GO AND PREPARE FOR 2016/2017 POST UTME-{NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES TELLS ASPIRANTS}
3RD JUNE FRIDAY 2016
The Nigerian universities has said that all those students who passed the just concluded 2016/2017 (UTME) exams and got up to 180 which is the cut off mark for all universities in Nigeria, should go and start preparing for the forth coming POST UTME exams which is coming up in 2 month times and not to feel relaxed despite the suggestion made by the ministry of education, because there is no how everybody that all the 5,000 students that applied for this year jamb will get into the university at once, it’s never possible for that to happen, because if it is like this virtually all the Nigerian polytechnics would be empty because no student in Nigeria would ever wish to go to polytechnics to study rather everyone would like to go to the university, so please if you are reading this article please go and start preparing for POST UTME exams before you realize it too late.
Now come to think of these universities in Nigeria which you all know that they are standard university in the country
*UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS
*UNIVERSITY OF BENIN
*UNIVERSITY OF ILLORIN
*UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN
*OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY
*FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY OWERRI,DELSU
How would they cope if there are no POST UTME exams to admit the students into the university, should they all allow these students to go in free without POST UTME? NO is the answer if not they will kill the standardization of the university and the school pride will go down, now in this case who are those that will be producing the first class that we normally produce every year? So please go and prepare for this year POST UTME exams or else mass failure of the exam would be recorded, also share this information to other students who would be also writing this exams.

Nah if no putme... uniben will have a general/school cut off mark just as 50 is the general cut off mark using putme and there will also be departmental cut off marks. Just that the school cut off mark might be increased... there is no way it can be 200.

some people really lack reading comprehension.
According to this link and others that i've read, the MOE has not fully scrapped the postutme but made plans to scrap it off and it hasn't been effected but will be done with time.
So there is obviously gonna be postutme exams this year.
But don't know why people aired and concluded already that it has been completely eliminated

My thought exactly. Even the radio stations reported it badly.

But these two lines caught my attention in the news...

"The federal government yesterday said plans are underway to scrap the examination. There are strong indications that government
would soon issue a directive to that effect to
universities to put an end to post UTME".

"Adamu who spoke alongside Permanent
Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Folashade Esan,
maintained that government would soon set in
motion the machinery that will bring post UTME
to its logical end".

exactly bro, from the man's statement, one can easily deduce that it's a future tense i.e it has not been presently enacted.
The radio stations in my state akwa ibom aired it badly and already concluded that it has been scrapped.

Reactions continue to surface following the scrapping of the Pume. JUST IN. Vice Chancellors won’t scrap post matriculation test Heads of Nigerian Universities yesterday condemned the recent call by lawmakers for post-JAMB tests in the country to be stopped, saying the entrance examination into the tertiary institutions conducted by Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), is no longer credible. Chairman of the Committee of Vice Chancellors and Vice Chancellor of University of Port Harcourt, Don Baridam, who briefed reporters in Abuja, said it is out of place for members of the House Representative to outrightly call for the university entrance examination to be stopped. Mr. Baridam said JAMB is no longer credible, as it does not in any way present a candidate’s true stand academically, hence the need for an additional test. Hear from us “If they want to scrap the post UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations), the first thing is to invite the universities and hear from them,” he said. “More than 90 per of those who wrote it have graduated. The first batch left last year, the second batch will leave this year and from the reports they are doing well. “Post UTME is not illegal. Universities had laws and the laws of the universities were done by the government binding the behaviour of members of the universities. This idea of post UTME started in 2004. The implementation was in 2005 and members of the National Assembly were quite aware of it. If it is illegal, they would have stopped us then. We are doing it for the interest of this country, not for personal interest. We want to see that we get in the best candidates. We cannot compete globally if we admit those who cannot write their names. We must ensure that right candidates are admitted into the universities.” On the fees paid by candidates before being admitted to write the test, Mr. Baridam stated that technologies and materials are used in conducting the examination and should be paid for; adding that the fees charged go towards validating the credibility of the examination. “It is not an avenue for exploitation but for selecting the best candidates,” he said. Easy to cheat The university administrator said the post UTME had become imperative considering that JAMB examinations cannot be depended upon. “It is easy to cheat in JAMB exams as the security measure is porous,” he said. The president of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian universities, Awuzie Ukachukwu, also told newsmen that the National Assembly should have been interested in reviewing the act that set up JAMB. “They are just grandstanding. They should look at the JAMB, review the act holistically,” he said. “Since there are more qualified Nigerian students who are not admitted because of lack of access, NASS should create access for children to get to the universities. They should not be talking about post UTME, the trivial aspect of the whole thing while the main issue is access. Access centres on funding, providing facility for every child to go to tertiary institution.”

If post-utme isn't scrapped, then Jamb should be scrapped. There's no point writing the same exam twice. They should, however, allow students take the post-utme this year, because they didn't notify us before hand.
