Rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Femi Falana has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s medical trip to the United Kingdom as normal.
Falana said the president needs to be commended for being honest and doing the right thing before going.
He told Daily Sun that Buhari is entitled to a month annual leave as a president “and he has taken the appropriate action by asking for leave and handing over to the vice president as required by law.

“Unlike a governor, who abandoned his duty post in solidarity with striking workers, without handover to his deputy. If I were the president, I would take a month, because he is entitled to one month leave in a year,” he said.

To buttress his point, Falana added: “It is normal. Even General (Ibrahim) Babangida, as a young man and military president went away for over a month. It is not unusual because he is not a stone. You can appreciate President Buhari for being honest about it.
“Anybody can fall sick but, the most important thing for somebody like him to do is hand over to his deputy so that the nation or state will not suffer, which he has done. That’s all.”

Buhari had, on Monday, travelled to United Kingdom to see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialists in London. His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina had insisted said the president is not ill to the level at which the disease is being described and that he had been treated locally and has only gone abroad for checks and, also, to rest for 10 days out of the one month annual leave he is entitled.

Immediate past national president of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and Vice President Commonwealth Medical Association, Osahon Enabulele, had reportedly described it as “a national shame” and said it was an ailment that could be treated in Nigeria.

Instead of us criticizing Mr President, I think we as a nation should desist from this dangerous trend of always want to condemn and forget to commend the giant and noble step he has taken. I stand to be corrected, no government at any level have ever done this since our nationhood. We have seen situations, of most recently, the Enugu state (Chima) where the Governor was incapacitated for number of months out of the country without handing over to his deputy. The Yaadua saga also came to mind too. PMB is setting a good precedence here and I am urging well meaning Nigerians to commend him for doing the right thing ever. If we fail to commend him, we are encouraging others to continue with the illegality of closing government shop and travel abroad without properly handing over to their deputies. Some will want to criticize even if their is nothing to critic. At once let us as a people begin to constructively critic government action and commend them when they do good. To me if we fail to commend Mr President for this, it is not the good omen we are setting.
Long live my President!
Long live my Vice President!!
Long live Nigeria!!!
Wishing PMB a quick recovery and safe return home

No one is against you for praising buhari, but, what are you Praising him for? Buhari, Said that he is on holiday. He didn't say that he is going on an official visit. When the president is on holiday, he/she hands over the affair of the nation to the vice.

Such is been done even in our local institute/company. Very soon you will praise him for saying "hello".

Handing over to the VP we commend you, travelling to London of a medical trip very hypocritical. Someone condemning medical trip for public servants. Allocating over 3billion naira to Aso Rock "clinic" while he himself can't use it. What's the diff between him and Godswill Akpabio? Wishing him quick recovery.

So these marafackers are blaming Buhari for going abroad for treatment ?? Big deal ??

Okon Abang said to Olisa Metuah, It's a shame your party was ruling for 16 years and you could not build a standard Hospital in Nigeria , therefore on health grounds your application to travel abroad is hereby banned

My point being , Buhari would not travel abroad for treatment if the thieves in Nigeria had done what was right in the first place

All those of you spewing trash , get a life

But i know that aint happening , Hater's gonna hate

Einl You said no one should be commended for doing what they are supposed to do , apparently , you did not take a course in management , even commendation is a motivation and it's very important in every organization

We're too hypocritical in this country. Why must our comments aligns with our preferences? We really need to always be objective in all our dealings to really move forward.
God bless Nigeria and Nigerians.

Has this man ever stayed in Nigeria for a month?
Ever since he resumed office, he has been touring around different countries.

Why can't he receive treatment in Nigeria?.

I have never heard David Cameron coming to nigeria for treatment.

Bubu always claim he's perfect, meanwhile he is part of the problem.

Our Health care is nothing to write home about.

What kind of a president leaves his country for one month just because he has ear infection?

I weep for Nigeria.

They don't get it. And how they think they have the full medical history and report of the president is beyond me.

He has a personal physician in England. He is due for leave. He has done the right thing before leaving . . . but people will always have something to say -- let them have at it.
