The oil in niger delta is a natural resources while agriculture products in the north is not. I hope this answer your question OP.
Re: ....... by Metallurgist: 9:01pm On Jun 12, 2016
agricultural products are result of hard work by humans, oil is a natural resource, before oil and gas the north produced most of the nation electricity without crying "our dam(oyel)" agricultural products belong to the farmers such is the case in Niger delta, north, west and eastern parts of Nigerian

By the sweat of a man's brow shall he find sustenance. Rearing cattle or tilling the land is someone's sweat and labor and it will be impossible for any government to lay claim to and confiscate the proceeds. Unless they want to do it themselves as no farmer or animal husbandman or any other producer would bother doing it if he cannot keep the fruits of his labor. This is what caused famines under collectivist Stalin and Mao that claimed the lives of millions under communism.

On the other hand, it is patently unfair for anyone to claim natural resources that was endowed by nature and the claimer had no business with how the resources got there in the first place, played no part in discovering the resources (they were told by foreign firms oil was beneath their feet), played no role in drilling and extraction, had zero role in converting said resource into useful products the world would pay top dollar for.

Yet he claims that oil is his sweat and he should keep the proceeds thereof. It is analogous to someone claiming the River Niger simply because he or his ancestors lived near by and then claim all the electricity generated at Kainji or Shiroro by reason of his supposed ownership of the River Niger.
