This is a fact, the fine was impracticable, MTN couldn't afford it.

As far as MTN gotta list on the stock market it's a big win for FG cos now it exposes MTN to more government scrutiny and corporate governance laws.

I Seriously Don't Know How Viable It Is To Invest In Stocks. The Last I Bought Over 6 Years Ago, Asides Certificate I Have, I've Never Been Told What's Happened To My Investment.

When we told Nigeria that MTN will pay a fraction of that ridiculous fine, they were busy chest beating. Lmao! Now MTN told them they will pack up and leave guess who reduced the fine by a whooping 70% just to save face? cheesy

When u read some comments on this forum I realise why Nigeria is generally backward.

A government has found a positive outcome from a negative impact to generate money for its ailing economy while at the same time encouraging local ownership by way of shares yet people lament.

Some have asked why the government has soft pedalled on the initial figure without understanding that the goose must not be killed and international diplomacy and ties must be maintained.

Some little brain even asked "who buys shares?"

Certainly not him.

A few years to come he would have no personal wealth, pension or shares to lean on or bequeath to his kids. Perhaps then he would understand the importance.

What Nigerians should expect from the forceful listing of MTN on NSE. IN THE 1ST 6MONTHS THE SHARES would be hot cake, this is just to swindle us like thief dokpesi. After 6 months, the story will change like APC dt cancelled all promises made before and during elections.
This is purely a business strategy, Nigerians are now wiser, never again would a greedy company swindle us.

Not when I've been browsing hitch free on airtel for the past three weeks without any yeye deduction. Airtel 2gig for 2hundred naira sev better pass their useless services and airtels 11kb/s cheap calls to all networks beats mtn hands down.

In my humble opinion, I think its a better deal; not as regard to the cut in the fine/penalty (though not bad since it is ADR, its all about exchanging one deal for the other) but for being qouted on the Stock exchange (this is long over due) to a large extent, this will encourage public participation in the affairs of the company and all relevant sections of CAMA as to due checks and balances in PLC will duely be apply. If MTN has been on this status all along the issue of threat wouldn't have hold water and am of the humble opinion that this development should further be extended to oil companies aswell most especially fully owed foreign members.

no way... It won't. Airtel has been my beloved network provider for over a year now... They don't act like mtn.

Mtn is just trying to get back in the same... And I see them getting in the game when they start offering 1hundred naira for one gig per month.

The moment they start selling shares and you buy into it, it is that money they would use in paying for the fine.

The deal should be that they settle all their gbese first then release IPOs.

This Policy is much better than the said fine... as long as it is properly implemented.

Lets run through this briefly:
which is better?
A foreign company making loads of money from Nigeria and shipping all their profit out of the country for years and years without Nigerian's benefiting Directly from the success of the Business while settling a tiny-tiny debt? Let us benefit from the company. I just hope the shares are reasonable enough.
The policy is good... the work lies in the IMPLEMENTATION.
More foreign companies should be made to reserve a bulk of their shares to Nigerians... its time for us to reap from the wealth we create.

I really feel sorry for MTN. I know everything is politrick. Other indigenous networks wouldn't av been fined to that tune if they flaunt NCC rules. It's just an unfair judgement given to mtn.
