Surfboard:No be today corruption start. That guy was an epitome of evil in the then Midwest concerning theft. That's why he had to die. The illiteracy of the people then was as much as it is now. Ouf leaders get liver because the populace are imbecilic. |

This is a narration of the "shit incident" (which happened in the 1970s) from one of Fela's boys, Uwa Erhabor in his book Kalakuta Diaries. (I will also supply an account of the murder incident from the New York Times) Their tumultuous relationship didn’t end there. Abiola was also the head honcho at Decca Records West Africa. Feeling invincible, he proceeded to release 10 Fela records without a valid contract. Upset at being financially cheated, Fela and members of the Kalakuta Republic stormed Decca Records, chased everyone out and took over the building. Left with no other options, the Inspector General of the police told Abiola that he would have to payhttp://archived.thisisafrica.me/downloads/detail/19835/kalakuta-diaries-new-book-fleshing-out-the-story-of-afrobeat-legend-fela-kuti Cc Caveatemptor |

GeneralShepherd:Abiola is an interesting character but no less a Nigerian man. I was young during june 12 and I did not care much about Abiola but I understand his plight, I was a Yaradua fan then. Abiola was close to Murtala/OBJ and IBB at some points in his life. In 1978/79 he joined NPN, Dikko and Akinloye did not give him much face, Akinloye wanted to contest in 1987 and Dikko did not like Abiola. He left NPN and partnered with his friend to ensure the success of the 1983 coup. He was an active non combatant participate in that coup through the mobilization of his media group and the newspapers of some of his friends. In those days, in the 1983 coup and like in the 1985 coup, you will probably be reading harsh criticism of the regime before a coup, courtesy of Abiola and his media friends. I won't be surprise if that did not contribute to the reasons the military hated media criticism because they know its effect. |

I read this story in the weekend papers when it happened in 1993. The papers reported that a member of Fela's band had been accused of stealing and been beaten and also reported that he had eventually been found dead, but most of the papers were also sympathetic to Fela and believed that he didn't have anything to do with it. Unfortunately there are no copies of those papers on line, so we are going to rely on the New York Times account. (Note that this was around the time of the annulment of the June 12 elections and all the riots and violence that followed it. Also note that Seun is wrong when he said that the shit incident happened because of the murder incident. The shit incident happened in the 1970s [because of the Decca issue], while the murder incident happened in 1993 ). THE NEW YORK TIMES. Can anybody remind of the person that Fela threatened to deal with in the late 1980s or early '90s? The person was the CEO or a top executive at Fela's record company and Fela alleged that the record company was making a lot of money from his music without giving him his agreed share of the money. So Fela threatened to personally deal with the person and have him detained at the Shrine. The person replied that Fela cannot do anything to him because this is the Federal Republic of Nigeria, not Kalakuta Republic. I can't remember if it was Dean Disi or Chief Tabansi or who exactly the person was and I'll be very grateful if anybody can remind me. |

RZArecta:Oh boy! Rebel INS. I also played his no said date album today. In fact it was a wu day for me. Uncontrolled substance is definitely one of the most underrated wu albums. They don't make cats like that no more. Wu--tang is a movement. Mad styles and skills. The abbot has really tried for the group. |

Caveatemptor:was fela arrested for bringing poo to mko's house or for robbing mko's wife of a red car? The problem with this country is with the desperate image doctors like you. I have watched a documentary where fela was tortured for armed robbery and he even showed part of his buttocks where pressing iron was used on him and its very horrible. Fela bore a mark on his body for being a man and speaking up while u are defending the indefensible. |

When will Mr. Seun Kuti grow up? He is still gloating in the shadow of his legendary father Fela Kuti of blessed memory. Seun has never composed one single hit song. Will all the political brouhaha going on in Nigeria, Fela would have composed many hit songs since 1999 to date. Femi Kuti has even tried with a couple of hit songs, but Seun seems to be clueless and lazy.. |

NovusHomo:u believed that Fela my legend died of AIDS? Dont you ask why many strong men started to die only to pave way for the biggest of scum from ota. The Shehu Yar adua, mko,Abacha were killed by cia to give obj a free ride to impunity. Fela in particular was killed because he cant stop exposing dictators which obj is and if fela never feared the military fools how can he fear them in a democratic setting so he cant be allowed to expose them in what would be the biggest fraud in the history of nigeria which is the 1999 gang of looters. |

DCONE1:It is you who is lost. Where did you ever hear Fela advocate that people live his own personal lifestyle? Name ONE person who has now died from AIDS infection from Fela. The entertainers the youth worship today are far far far more devastating to the values of Nigeria than Fela ever was. You have no idea. I'm not surprised since you value dumb religion that has held this country hostage |

Surfboard:making kaduna chukwuma nzeogwu a true Nigerian. Okotie Eboh,Zik,Awo,Armadu Bello and Akintola are all criminals. That line in our anthem were we say the labors of our heroes past makes me ask"what heroes"? Unless if they are referring to the five majors. |

naptu2:That would be the late MKO Abiola, when he was chairman of Decca Records. Fela picketed the company premises, then eventually took over the place and lived there for severally weeks with his wives and hangers on. |

ziddy:No, I'm not referring to Abiola. The issue with Abiola happened much earlier and I've already written about that on this thread. This particular incident that I'm referring to happened in the late 1980s or early 1990s. |
