Please quote the international law statutes that you're referring to. As far as I know every country makes the laws that governs the ownership of properties and businesses within its own borders. That is not the purview of international law which general deals with issues between countries.
Article 17 of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights of which Nigeria is a signatory to states:

"(1) Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others.

(2) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property"

Besides this law, there is nothing in the Nigerian constition that gives the Government the right to sieze anyone's property , wether citizen or not, without any just cause. Infact, the only time a Government in a democracy can sieze a property without compensation is if the property was being used for or acquired by crime, under the proceeds of crime act.

These pathetic sons and daughters of FALLEN ANGEL oduduwa still have the time to dwell on igbo matters, while their region is imploding through Muslim versus Christian madness in Osun state. U guys should not wary, 3 to 5yeas from now southwa.ste will go down the drain like northeast.

I love the way the hausa fulanis have infiltrated the file and rank of yoruba politics and politicians, planted their mercenaries and imported the radical and fanatical Islam to southwa.ste. We the Christian republic will be watching from afar while the tinkling time bomb explode.

One question for you what if Nigeria claim they dont have the monetary equivalent of the biafran properties and wont issue Resident visas to biafrans? What then becomes of such properties? That is why before you acquire a property in britain from another country of birth, you must first of all acquire a british citizenship or residency. If you are coming as an investor, govt will give you a waiver to that effect and onces you decide to close down the business/investment and go back to your home country no body will give u any monetary equivalent of your property. Best you can do is to get the property sold before leaving. If biafrans dont get buyers for their properties and refused residency visas, the properties is as good as gone
There is one thing to note. Whenever a country secedes from another, there is always a period of negotiations for the "terms of disengagement" that follows. It happened when East Timor left Indonasia. It is during this time that the sharing of assets and liabilities are discussed as well as the status of citizens of old and new countries. Sometimes, the residency status is not an issue like the case of when Czecoslovakia split into Czec Republic and Repubic of Slovakia in 1992, the residency was not a problem because both countries we're immediately admitted into the EU and their citizens gained immediate residency status. It could be that if any group of people in Nigeria left, example if Igbos left as the Republic of Biafra, they might gain almost immediate residency status if Biafra joins ECOWAS. All ECOWAS member states have automatic residency status in any of the 15 countries that make up ECOWAS. But in the case that Biafra does not join ECOWAS and the Nigerian Government decides not to to give the Biafrans residency or even a 'grace period' to liquidate their assets, the Biafrans will have return home with movable assets while the immovable ones such as houses can be handed over estate managers, property Lawyers and so on to manage on their behalf, collect rent or sell on their behalf. However, the disadvantage of Nigeria doing this is that it will give Nigeria a very bad name in the international community and make international investors run away. What these people will think is "If Nigerians can do that to Igbos they used to call brothers, what can they do to me tomorrow as a foreigner?". This will be devastating for the Nigerian economy.

Because Biafra did not manage to secede in the long run and become recognised by the UN. We are talking about in the "event of secession".

You are wrong abt the automatic residency status, there is visa free access which you will be given time of stay. If there was an auto-matic residency why did the shagari govt come up with the " Ghana must go" campaign. Which property lawyer will collect rent from his fellow country man and send it down to you in another country where is that done except the property manager is a saint. Guy accept the fact i have told you in my last post. Nigeria is not doing anything bad here, is either biafrans apply for Nigerian residency or you remain as Nigerians. Even if Biafran joins Ecowas they can only have visa free access with a limited time of stay. I can assure you Nigeria has the right to choose which biafran they give resident permit/ Citizenship/ Business visa and not every biafran will get one so at the end of it all some biafrans will loose their properties.

Why seize their properties then if they didn't secede and are still Nigerians. The same Yorubas you love to hate immediately returned the ones in our possession but no day will come on nairaland without an Igbo Yoruba basher

Have you ever asked why there is ECOWAS embossed on top of the Nigerian passport? You think it is there for fun? That sign is there to remind the any country in West Africa you go to that you are a citizen of an ECOWAS member state and you have the full right to travel, live and work anywhere in West Africa. The only reason that Ghanains could be deported long ago was because Nigeria and other member states had not yet signed the 1992 ECOWAS free trade agreement. Anyone from any ECOWAS country can travel, live and work in Nigeria without Visa. There are many people in Nigeria, some living abroad who have handed their properties over to estate managers or even their Lawyers to take of for them. It happens all time.

Ibos cannot have their cakes and eat it, no one cancer do that! If Nigeria breaks up, Ibos MUST leave within weeks and immediately with all their families and properties! This is the fact and how things are done! How can you want a divorce and fight for it but after being granted, you still want to sleep on the same bed, in the same house and have all the privileges of marriage that you just fought to break?? That is senseless and a manifestation of ibo sense - but we are way smarter than that BS.

If you can start or hire a company that moves houses, this is the time to do it because all ibo properties must be moved, demolished, sold or removed from every inch of Yorubaland somehow. Forget visas or ECOWAS cover, it will not work. Yoruba land or Nigeria will be a sovereign country and determine who and when it gives visitation privileges.

I googled search before i replied you, there is no such thing as automatic residency, you will have to apply for it. As for the properties you may be right, i dont know the law in Nigeria but in the USA,the property manager can rent on the foreigner's behalf but will pay rental income tax until the period of lease expires. But Nigeria nigeria is a sovereign country and can make its own land laws, its not subject to international laws but can be negotiated between both parties.

Ecowas rules stipulate only a 90 day permit after which non nationals need apply for residency. You cant just head out to Ghana and settle there.. Also know something, there can be no happy separation

Point to the person holding you back? Have you packed your loads from SW and North and someone stopped you?

Per the question all Biafrans would have to leave first and apply for a visa to come in, The visa would be granted at the discretion of consular officers. If you dont have a visa and you cant come to the country your property is domiciled then you would owe property taxes and when your property taxes go beyond a certain limit the govt can take over the property and auction to citizens

secession is not always a win-win situation. Properties will be lost, but it is for a better cause.

Anytime I think of Biafra one of the things I remember is Igbo property- Estate and Companies in lagos and other parts of Nigeria. Because of the incessant quarrel between Igbos and Yorubas on Nairaland, I keep wondering if Biafra goes to war with Nigeria or succeeds in breaking away from Nigeria, what Yorubas would do to Igbo Companies and Estate?

My first question goes to the Yorubas. will you go after Igbo property in yoruba land especially lagos if they secede?

My second question goes to Biafra. How do you plan to protect your property in Yoruba land and other part in Nigeria if you decide to go to war with or break away from Nigeria? Do you regrete developing Yoruba land instead of yours?

I believe the answers to these questions will show that Nigerian must be one
