Why Farmers fertilizer: Our soil is sick because: 1.The soil has low organic carbon content 2. It is depleted of Nutrients 3. It has low biodiversity What has caused soil sickness. 1. Fertilizers used are non-proportional. We concentrate on applying only Macro-nutrients. 2. A lot of pesticides are used on the land, as a result this has reduced the microorganisms in the soil. 3. Little or nothing is added to the soil after harvest. 4. Land has been used season after season and not given time to rest. What is the remedy The only remedy to heal the soil is by applying organic materials. Organic materials increase the organic components of the soil which in return attract microorganisms, which increase the pore space of the soil which eventually increase the nutrients content of the soil. Method of application Plants can access nutrients through the roots or through the leaves. Based on this, different methods are developed. The plant absorbs nutrients through the roots via the stem to the leaves. In this way, farmers Fertilizer join the stream of water moving to the leaves. There are four methods of applications. 1. Foliar Spraying: This is the most preferred method of application. The roots and the leaves are sprayed. When plants are sprayed, the nutrients enter into the leaves through the stomata and then to the cell where they perform their functions. 2. Roots Tugal: (For tree plants) Four holes are made around the tree in the ground. The distance from the plant to the holes is 15-25cm. In each hole 250mls of the mixed fertilizer are poured. This is done once in a month. 3. Stem Drilling Method, A hole is drilled into the stem of the plant. It is done with plants with very wide stem i.e 30 cm and above. The height from the ground to where the hole is made is 80 to 100 cm. The hole is 10cm and it is made at an angle of 45. A plastic pipe is fixed into the hole. The plastic pipe is 20cm. The mixed fertilizer is poured into the pipe. This is done once in a month and more is added when fertilizer in the pipe is finished. 4. Injection: This one is usually done for banana. The banana is injected with 5ml of concentrated Farmers Fertilizer. It is done once every month. It is injected around the mid area considering the height of the banana. 1 Like |
