I wonder what will please Nigerians, when they sit in their office and do nothing but embezzle we complain, when they join the populace and do the right thing we say it's "oju aye" abi na "cheap popularity" ...

if every political office holder can personally join in cleaning their environment our streets would be better off

It saddens me when I see how people cheer politicians for doing a job they were elected and paid to do.

On a serious note with all the money being spent on environmental agencies, tax payers are still required to clean their street and we find nothing wrong with it.

To be honest it is time we started asking our governors and local government chairmen questions. How can you pay people that work in environmental agencies every month and also allot money to same ministries, you still come back to the tax payers; stop them from going about their businesses and subject them to clean the same streets that are the responsibility of the government.

When will be wake up and do the right thing?
my broda, it is cheer stupidity disturbing my people. Must they involve the media when they are performing their civic duty? besides, they are paid to work and their salaries/allowances never get delayed. Why must we celebrate them? I leave the answer to my gullible people.................

I agree strongly on your first point.

While I agree on the second point - it's the taxpayers who destroy their own environment by not dealing with their refuse appropriately. Maybe they need to be bombarded with more information on the need and benefits of keeping the environment clean, such as the end of 'environmental' days where movement is restricted and businesses suffer. Such practices have no place in the democratic era.

I agreed with you! A reorientation is needed but then the government need to do more than they are doing now. Let me tell you this; while schooling in Europe, I noticed that the garbage disposal team comes twice every week. Tuesday to pick up organic waste and Thursdays for recyclable plastics and papers. In addition to that, you will always find trash can at street ends and this trash cans are emptied once a week. Normally Thursday night is always party night around students area and what the city council does is to come Friday morning and clean the place because they are aware of such activities. It shows efficiency and efficient allocation of resource but where I live now you hardly see the garbage disposal team. They only come once in God knows when, what you think the masses will do pile their garbage at home or look for where (illegal and am not condoning it) to disposal it?

Which brings me to the point that we have to hold our elected official accountable for not only doing the job we paid them to do but finding efficient way to manage the resource giving to them to execute such tasks.
