chimah3: 419 policy. I wrote before the policy was implemented that the dollar will only depreciate if the yuan is also introduced into the interbank where people can source for yen directly. This is the only way the demand on dollar will drastically reduced as many buyers of USD who happens to be China allies will simply go for the yuan thereby forcing the naira to appreciate against the USD. |

skyhighweb: Every intending international student will have to pay the offset as a result of the new rates. Even if officially USD drops to 250, depending on the amount to be paid, it could be a huge sum. This is a very bad policy. I was wrong about this government but hope is all I've got right now. |

Every time I read what Nigerians say about the exchange rate, I realise how much trouble Nigeria is into and getting further into. I see a clear case of failure abusing effort on the alater of blindness. There is a saying by the late Ultimate Dr Sir Warrior : Onye Anyi ka nma ako la anyi onu. That is, the person wey we better pass don yab us...tu fia qua! Dem talk am say if you are used to being slapped, you find it difficult to understand how a knock on the head is a form of abuse. On this earth. every person is defined firstly by the prosperity and level of organising in where they come from. So no matter how intelligent, beautiful/handsome elegant, presentable and mannered you are personally, if you are a Nigerian, you will always be treated as a Nigerian as perceived by others. Therefore, the biggest problem in Nigeria is that government has failed to make us all to see that in the end the perception about Nigeria is a fantastically important matter. It is this failure that has led to the wanton pervasive greed which has enveloped Nigeria. That is the reason we no longer are able to recognise danger or something wrong. We have lost the ability to ask what is the right thing to do and have now mastered how to look at a poison and ask: How much dem fit pay person wey fit give am to people? It breaks my heart to see how narrowed the minds of my people have become. The person who wants to get cheap dollars and pounds to school abroad whilst doing a good thing, fails to bother about two other things : 1 Where will the dollars or pounds come from 2 Which other aspect of life can they out with to stop wastage of dollars and pounds so that it can remain cheap. In America Europe and other developed places, you can buy forex online or from shops without hassle. However, in those countries, almost everyone is at least a couch economist. Americans are known to buy expensive made in America in the face of cheaper imports. If the pound depreciates, brits will book mainly local holidays. The recent Brexit was anchored on taking back their country and damming the consequences. Until we accept that we cannot continue to enjoy what we do not have and stop promising to donate what we do not have, our problems will not abate. False economy is false economy. ..shikina! Kaki no be leather! The level of false economy in Nigeria is so unknown to most Nigerians that I can only pity them. When Japan was ruling with cheaper goods, Americans recognised the threat of Japan and went to invest in Japan. They made sure that Japanese goods sold in America also produced profit for America. Now that China is the kid on the block, Americans are there to make profit for America. Apple makes its phone in China and sells to the world. That way, it creates jobs for Americans in the high paying end of research, development and product support while using the cheaper labour of China to guarantee more profits for itself and more tax for America. Nigerians on the other hand go to China with nothing to offer and just to import finished goods without any feelings about how such only sucks dollars out of Nigeria. We want cheap dollars but we don't care about where it will come from and how to make it cheap. It is not about only Buhari, it is about us all. Buhari is messing around with toy efforts but Nigerians are making matters worse by distracting him. Buhari needs to actively help the manufacturing sector by doing something drastic. For example, Buhari should hire a plane and place it at the disposal of machinery importers. So, if you are bringing in or importing machines to set up a factory, government will fly it into Nigeria for you free. Then any product that is made to SON standard should have 500 percent duty on its competitors for 2 years to enable the product to gain market popularity. This two policies alone will see massive foreign investment. But that is not what I see on forums. Instead of serious reasoning and solutions proffering, I see insults and ethnic egocentric display. May God help us all to start seeing that no marginalisation can prevent hardwork from prospering. So, let us not be chained by Buhari’s small effort or focus on distracting him. Instead, let us keep proffering solutions and think about nigeria. Thanks. 7 Likes 1 Share |
