YES but it would take time you may not be alive to use it.
Re: Is Steady Electricity Possible In Nigeria? by obicentlis: 8:22am On Jul 02, 2016
Yes, if we stop the issue of national grid and build power plants for each state or region. Source for the cheap raw materials for each zone or state according to the materials available. Eg, solar based power for the core North with thermal based plants too. Gas plant for the south That are closer to gas zone.

Why not? Afterall, "it's not rocket science." wink
Re: Is Steady Electricity Possible In Nigeria? by SmartMugu:
Sure. But that area needs to be decentralized. Sane countries allow consumers to make choices, in naija case, how much electricity people get is imposed on the populace.

If opportunities to revamp the electricity industry in Nigeria is open for bids from firms all over the world, and a transparent contract award process is followed, Nigeria can have 24/7 electricity in a matter of years.

In our case, we already know sensitive and costly projects like that would go to cronies of the same old people we already know. They will end up taking the contract money, and throw one old transformer in the middle of Kainji dam and mark the project as complete.

What do we expect from a nation led by selfish, dumb and blind old people?

Power supply problem in Nigeria is Multifaceted.

1. Generator importers don't work it solve.
2.Gas(Petrol) seller don't want it solve.
3. Think about the immediate effect of constant Power supply on the finance of Generator technician's
4. Think of the CORRUPTION factor.
5. The staff don't want it to work (why won't they supply prepaid meters)
6. Think about the Nigeria Factor.

...#ProblemAreMeantToBeSolved.

Re: Is Steady Electricity Possible In Nigeria? by Phonefanatic: 8:27am On Jul 02, 2016
GEJ could have achieved that or something close....... Not with this present govt.

In the past administration I remember having light at least 5 days a week but then people said it was due to high water level grin grin
Now I wonder if the dried up river in Ogun is what powers our plants
Re: Is Steady Electricity Possible In Nigeria? by seguno2: 8:27am On Jul 02, 2016
Yes IF we use the brains that God gave us to find the solution.
Re: Is Steady Electricity Possible In Nigeria? by amakenny: 8:28am On Jul 02, 2016
No. Not when President Buhari saddles one man, Fashola, with supplying roads, houses and electricity in wide wide wild Nigeria.

If only our leaders will stop being selfish
At this point in time, power really has very little to do with government.
So it's down to Nigerians to stop vandalism.
Re: Is Steady Electricity Possible In Nigeria? by gurunlocker: 8:29am On Jul 02, 2016
To achieve this, the income of an average Nigerian will be high, because a stable electricity means a higher bill.... If we are to get 24/7 electricity, then each house must be ready to pay 30,000 monthly.....
Re: Is Steady Electricity Possible In Nigeria? by magicminister: 8:31am On Jul 02, 2016
Nigeria is the only country i know that every household cannot boast of over 20 hours of electricty!!

We have been having power problems since before the time of my father.
I don't see any hope in sight. Not with our current crop of leaders!
Re: Is Steady Electricity Possible In Nigeria? by ElDaIllest(m): 8:32am On Jul 02, 2016
yes it is very possible places like bonny already enjoys steady electricity supply having one of the best gas plants in Africa, personally I think Nigeria has come of age to use cleaner sources of energy like wind turbines, solar panels, etc but this sources of power are very few in the country and only available to those who can afford them

The problem is the money... If we had the money we would build this power plants.. . Truth be told we need over 200,000mw as a country and that will cost over 250 billion dollars , how do we raise such money in this country...

10 years is much,if our leaders do the right thing it is100% possible
It is shortsighted. We should give like 30yrs, all things being equal. Do know that if the country genarates 20,000MW of electricity in the next 5yrs, there is no available structure to evacuate and distribute same. We are in a very big problem in this country.

Don't mind some hypocrites who pretend not to remember that electricity supply was close to 100% under the best President (Jonathan)

It will be possible if Otedola should diversify his business from solely diesel importation and if morapco, jubaili And co, should decide to sell alternative power generators like solar panels and wind turbines, if not even the mighty prof Nnaji will not achieve such fit.

In other words politics and excessive greed won't let it happen.

GEJ and prof Nnaji were up to something but made a huge mistake by selling gencos and discos to political cronies.

My dad was a humble Nigerian diplomats and yet the Vice Presidents daughter and 1 were class mates...

They are able to manage what little resources they have and provide 24hours power,Water, and good roads and free meals in govt schools In the many years I was there power only went off for 5mins one evening which the govt announced due to maintenance.

I weep for my country cry
why did you come back here? Did u intend to feel the suferring?

Re: Is Steady Electricity Possible In Nigeria? by Rajiolaade: 8:37am On Jul 02, 2016
It is possible, but with appropriate approach, right & experienced people in place.Decentralizing the grid, local mini power plants for some remote areas, e.g. Nothing is wrong with osun state using 45 megawatts lying waste at osogbo steel mill, which is enough for even osun & its environ towns. Least to say.

Let us split Nigeria, it's not a must we stay together, only then shall things be as it should be,its possible in southwest Nigeria.

Re: Is Steady Electricity Possible In Nigeria? by Shollarh(m): 8:38am On Jul 02, 2016
I honestly thing independent power generation per state should be the solution to Nigeria's power problem. I mean would an entire country rely on just some dam?
Re: Is Steady Electricity Possible In Nigeria? by Etern: 8:38am On Jul 02, 2016
It can be done in 4 years! If they decide to use gas turbines. Civil works for power plant can be done in 6 months. Placing of order for turbines and actual delivery ~2 years. It should be cited near existing infrastructure. Simultaneously upgrading of the major transmission lines. It will take longer if they decide to use other technology like coal etc. We have gas in abundance but political vandals will not allow constant supply.

A dog winning an election in Nigeria is more likely to happen than 24/7 power supply.
Lol

They refuse to restructure the polity that throws out near-dogs as leaders, yet they want miracles, perhaps from God to bring constant electricity in Nigeria.

By refusing to pressure to restructure the polity, which makes politicians want to continue to smile to the banks with oil money, Witt little or no account for the masses, Nigerians chose to remain without electricity for many more decades to come.

You can't eat your cake and have it.

Go buy generator before you call me IPOB.
Re: Is Steady Electricity Possible In Nigeria? by lonelydora: 8:38am On Jul 02, 2016
Very possible. Power is wasting in all the industries in Nigeria. Indorama in Eleme have about 6 gas turbines capable of supplying power to Port Harcourt and environ , and one is what they use at a time, five on standby. Notore have 2 gas turbines, also one on standby. I can go on and name many companies like Shell, NLNG , Agip, Total, etc. Fully privatize these Power industry and allow them to sell the power, you will see how Nigeria will turn overnight.

Let's us go back to the old ways of power generation and transmission and forget about this National grid thing. Our leaders should not be selfish and pump in money for equipment upgrade to most power generation and transmission companies.

It is very possible if only we can be truthful to ourselves.
