Senate President Saraki And Majority Leader Ali Ndume Part Ways. by wengerjay(op): 7:12pm On Jul 03, 2016
The crisis in the leadership of the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly has taken a turn for the worst as a cold war has started between Saraki and his deputy on one hand, and the Leader of the Senate, Ali Ndume, on the other hand.

Investigations by our correspondent, in the last one week, revealed that trouble started when Saraki allegedly discovered that Ndume was not on the same page with him on the crisis he was having with the Presidency.

A ranking senator, who craved anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the issue, confided in one of our correspondents during the week that Saraki suddenly discovered that Ndume, who was allegedly close to the Presidency, was no longer pleading his case whenever he was in the Villa.

The senator explained that since his emergence as Senate leader, Ndume allegedly warned Saraki to be wary of Ekweremadu and other members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the red chamber who might want to pitch him against the presidency.

He was said to have specifically advised Saraki to avoid any form of confrontation with President Muhammadu Buhari, but should rather do everything possible to support his administration, so that the latter would extend a hand of fellowship to him.

The source said, “The trouble between Saraki and Ndume started when some of Saraki’s ‘men’ in the Villa started feeding the Senate President with reports of how Ndume had allegedly joined members of the Senate Unity Forum to work against him and Ekweremadu.

“Don’t forget; Ndume contested for deputy senate president against Ekweremadu in this Eighth Senate. His initial intention was to be Senate president before realignment between him and Saraki made him to settle for deputy senate president.

“It was when Saraki discovered that all attempts by him to see President Buhari did not succeed despite Ndume’s assurances that he started listening to other close colleagues, who advised him to adopt a confrontational strategy against the Presidency.”

Attempts to speak with the Senate President on the issue failed as he is currently on Lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia, while calls put across to his deputy did not also connect.

However, when contacted, the Senate Leader denied knowledge of any face-off between him and the presiding officers of the Senate.

Ndume said, “I am not aware of any crack in the Senate leadership. In fact, I am hearing that for the first time.”

But some of Saraki and Ekweremadu’s aides, who spoke with one of our correspondent off the record in separate interviews, confirmed that Ndume was no longer on the same page with the Senate presiding officers.

An aide to Saraki said, “It is true. Ndume is no longer on our side, but there is no cause for alarm. We have taken necessary measures. We have been observing him for quite some time now, but he has shown to us where he belongs.”

Likewise, an aide to Ekweremadu, who equally spoke on condition of anonymity, acknowledged the crack in the Senate leadership, stressing that Ndume had finally fallen apart with Saraki and his boss.

He said, “The truth of the matter is that the crisis did not start today. It was when the Senate President realised that he was being misled by the Senate leader that they fell aparthttp://saharareporters.com/2016/07/03/senate-president-saraki-and-majority-leader-ali-ndume-part-ways-federal-court-refuses

The Northerners see Saraki as becoming too powerful, his confrontation with the Presidency may finally nail him.

Why would the Persidency want to dictate who heads another arm of government?

Saraki made all the sacrifice he ought to make.

1. He walked out of PDP and brought donors to APC.

2. He supported Buhari in the elections.

3. He made mockery of Ministerial screening by approving Buhari's nominees without problems.

4. He refused to drag Buhari into the fight, hoping that the old man will have sense and conscience and call his dogs to order.

My question is : if Saraki was good for the campaigns, why has he gone bad now that it is time to share office?

I don't like Saraki and I think Buhari and APC are God's judgement on him for his many sins, but sometimes, we have to say the truth without caring whose ox is gored. The truth is that Buhari and APC want to use and dump him but he has said NO!

I see this fight lingering till election before they will abandon it for campaigns. I am enjoying every bit of it and has bought my guguru and ekpa.

They pleaded with him at the first instance and they tried to reason with the different interest groups within the APC to resolve matters. Initially it was Saraki that keeps stabbing APC in the back. They had a mini convention to allow them pick one person.Saraki lost only to take advantage of the fact they went to conference center to place himself.

A tree does not make a forest and It also goes beyond the presidency.IF anything Buhari has time and again tried to stay away from the matter. It is Saraki and his faction that keeps dragging him back in with silly jabs and blame of being quiet. He would have simplified issues If he stood his ground against the unity group,Tinubu and probably some APC people opposed to his emergence than consistently dragging the other entity(Presidency,PDP etc) in the political matter.

When a news item has too many anonymous sources, such news is most likely to be fictive.

The question is, are the cases against him legitimate or not

The hounds of death are all over Saraki's political ambition and career. He was duly used (screening all the Ministers sent in by Buhari) by the powers that be in APC to actualize their aims but block his own source of "extra cash" (padded budget) and now he is about to be unseated and jailed......he refused to study the 48 Laws of Power!

I don't like replying posts like yours cos it is not objective and heavily coloured by your political inclination.

If I may ask, The CPC produced the President, A C N the VP, don't you think it is right the NewPDP produced the Senate President?
It was also agreed that Buhari will make a member of the defunct ANPP, SGF but he reneged on all of this. This would have compensated all the parties that came together to form the APC.

Why would the APC ask a big masquerade like Saraki that was a former Governor(and C/man of their nonsense NGF) to step down for a Lawan who was just promoted from the House of Reps to the Senate?( This is how these men think sha).

The Apc would have insisted on producing George Akume as Senate President, that would have stopped Saraki. This is because Akume is a former Governor, fmr PDP and has more national appeal and spread than Lawan. Those that supported Saraki wouldn't have had any problem supporting Akume.

Do you know why Akume was not picked by the APC for the office? Buhari said NO. He leaned towards Lawan's candidacy. Don't tell me he is not in this fight cos he's 100% in it.

*I get that Feeling about you too, can i say its mutual*

* yes and yet the APC is not asking that the SGF resign! That should tell you alot and if i remember correctly the SGF once thanked Tinubu instead of PMB for his emergence*

Why would the APC ask a big masquerade like Saraki that was a former Governor(and C/man of their nonsense NGF) to step down for a Lawan who was just promoted from the House of Reps to the Senate?( This is how these men think sha).

*Yeah but Saraki too is a stranger as It affects house matter.I can also look it from the other angle to say Lawan is an experience legislator far more than a Saraki. He is more of a career legislator than Saraki*

The Apc would have insisted on producing George Akume as Senate President, that would have stopped Saraki. This is because Akume is a former Governor, fmr PDP and has more national appeal and spread than Lawan. Those that supported Saraki wouldn't have had any problem supporting Akume.

*Yeah but last i remembered Akume step down and accepted to be the deputy of somebody as against someone who bull dozed his way, neglecting his party formular only his lone desire.Last I checked the APC members in the house that were against Saraki were higher in number. The guy staged a calculated take over without popular support from his party with in the house*

Do you know why Akume was not picked by the APC for the office? Buhari said NO. He leaned towards Lawan's candidacy. Don't tell me he is not in this fight cos he's 100% in it.

*Am just hearing that from you. Yet Akume was penciled to run with someone as deputy. All i remember was Tinubu and APC insisted Saraki respects the agreement reached and he flaunted it. Even after he did that it took days and appeal from some APC elements to get PMB to simply ask Saraki to respect the party decision for the position. Why was he reluctant if he disagreed so much. Tinubu took the matter far more than PMB. Even lawan in his interview suggested his support came from Tinubu, like wise Akume. Tinubu again persuaded Akume to step down for Lawan.PMB was not that critical in the out come like you want to make it.I remember PMBs position initially was to work with anybody the house elected even after Saraki won. Somewhere along the way the APC and Tinubu factor kept coming up to reign in such people that flaunt party arrangements. It is either he bites the hand and side with Saraki or take a firm position with the party. He was never in on it but rather had to take the popular party position. He also had to respect it to avoid upsetting his allies in the party*
