This is the time for PMB to proactively engage the former president, Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Wike to assist in finding solution to the renewed restlessness in the Niger Delta. Nigeria economy is already in a precarious situation. If NDA continued with the bombing of oil facilities, in the next few months, Nigeria will be grounded.
We should all condemn this acts of sabotage on the part of NDA as I still believe that no group should hold Nigeria to ransom. Nevertheless, we should also blame PMB for hastily dismantling the peace sustaining structures instituted by the Yaradua and Jonathan. If the truth must be told, Niger Delta region has been neglected over the years.......We need to give the people of the region sense of belonging.

this is not affecting PMB but it's affecting the economy. being a former military & him being 72yrs old, I doubt if he is taking serious thought. I really don't know which side the divide is good/preferable.
on one hand Pmb has his personal "_integrity " & ego to protect as s president &__former military top.
he keeps making comments at interval to incite d militant & the militants r reacting to it. (for all he cares hr may not go for another term)

on the other hand former militants have enriched themselves &left the emancipation of d ND for others but the issue of their land & resource still remain.

in a nut shell.
president ego of keeping the country together &_remaining" strong" in face of termed "terrorist" of Nigeria sovereignty . A weaker economy but pointing fingers to the cause. AND

militants double assertion of resource control and land degradation sandwiched with a new sovereignty for itself but causing economic sabotage & with it's Senate & devt agencies representative not showing support or impacting their area positively

What these accidental environmentalists forget is he who is already down fears no fall. These guys blowing up stuff did they tell us that they are daft as not to know the consequences of the actions on the environment, on the fauna and flora and ultimately the economy?

The FG should do whatever needs to be done to rein these avengers in- accede to their requests or defeat them in their gruelling guerrilla turf.

The hypocritical environment angle wouldn't cut it- you cannot be more environmental and love their ecosystem more than their beloved Kenule Saro-Wiwa who was murdered -wait for it- by the kith and kin of today's environmentalists.

Military, Police, Security Services are all recognition by the human State that the State can not survive by the goodwill of the people alone. Nigeria's security system is not and never was fit for purpose. We existed for the most part in Nigeria in a burble of anomaly, that is by the goodwill of the people. Nigeria is probably now for the first time confronted by the true nature of the human condition in a Nation State but because the state has not caught up, things look abnormal.


The Nigerian people are very good, they're well behaved even the Deltans. If they were not, there would be no peace or security in any part of Nigeria. This is because Nigeria is a State without police or any security service. Nigeria is like an open super market mall, in a poor neighborhood, without security officers, CCTV, or even checkout workers. Those without self-control go in there to help themselves to goods.


Nigeria State cannot rely on the goodwill of the people because everyone has grievances. Those less caring of others will sooner or later rise up to take things without playing by the rules of good behavior or good upbringing or social rules and sanctions.

Next time you go outside, wherever you are in the world, take a second or two to look around you. Consider the population around you and consider the number of police and army personal in your Nation. For instance, Nigeria, with a population of 190 million probably has less than a million security personnel - that is Army+police+ Intelligence Officers + Paramilitary +security officers. What chances has the state, if most people decided to go bad for their own self-aggrandizement. The Human Nation State, is a precarious thing. It hangs together because of the Family providing good primary socialization. However, the sates cannot allow itself to depend solely on this as Nigeria is doing.

In a funny way, the British were confronted not long ago by something that brought this dystopian possibility to my mind. A few years ago, following the death of a man named Mark Duggan at the hands of the police, riots swept through London and spread to some northern cities. The standout feature of these riots was the way in which, young people used their mobile phones to coordinate their actions. A criminal mastermind wasn't siting somewhere, thinking how to make this thing unfold the way that it unfolded, it somehow organically evolved. Anyway, the upshot was that suddenly, it became apparent that the British security service in London were stretchered. The establishment tried to get things under control in London by appropriating the police from other parts of the country. As police were drawn to London, they left behind other places unprotected. In the absence of the Police, Citizens in those places then took to the streets to loot shop and burn down things.

When finally those riots died, there was an unspoken realization in the air (media, political authority) just how bad things could have been for Britain if only the youth had known what they were in the cusp of achieving. Mobile communication had resulted in a possibility very obvious and yet no one had considered it. I have no doubt that Britain has now learned the lesson and have put in place measure to deal with such a dystopian scenario should one threaten in the future.


Nigeria needs to take Nationhood seriously and a huge part of doing so is to invest in all arms of security. The people destroying Delta State do so because Nigeria cannot manage security and not because of grievances. Grievances is a given, grievances is part of the human condition. I Know how this seems but it is essentially true. You could for instance grant all those people destroying Delta all they demand only for those grants to constitute another grievance for another group.

If any of these armed groups makes reps, senators and high-profiled politicians their target now for overseeing this national shame and pain, Nigeria will be restructured within a month or two. A country with leaders who won't do any good unless under compulsion will shatter irreparably.
