The photo shows the Interior of the British council centre library in Ibadan, Oyo state in 1964. Notice how all the men cross their legs as they read their books? 8 Likes

The oyinbos left too early, na that kind 1994 dey suppose leave . Infrastructure wise Nigeria wouldn't be at this shitty level that we are on. There might b racism and all those crazy tins but our moral and way of life would have been better than this. We've been ruling ourselves since 1960 and ordinary roads our govt can't provide. 104 Likes 7 Shares |

ziggy3579: The library in Calabar looks like that now, if not better. Likewise the e-library in Uyo. The Oyinbos left too early, for the North. They left too late for the South. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

ziggy3579: Depends . Thing is....if they had stayed that long, we would be complaining about issues of racist behaviour/discrimination. South Africa was run by the Whites till 1994. While it is a lovely country in some parts, most black people did not benefit from the whites hanging around. (And the whites deliberately manipulated the education system to the disadvantage of blacks). All in all.....Nigeria got its independence at the right time. The fact that we are still underdeveloped is basically due to the fact that our economy is not based on innovation, but on sharing money from revenues made from selling raw materials....whose price we do not control....and that sharing formula argument foments tribalistic and religious tensions. 11 Likes |

Ahhh, I remember when my friend's father used to borrow novels from there, after my friend and her 4 brothers finished with the books, they would sneak it across for me to read as quickly as possible, it taught me speed reading and taking extra special care of books, cos those British Council books were like gold to me back then, shiny and new, smelled good too 7 Likes |

goodheart02: Where most of the black population is poor, and where many blacks have been so let down by the education system there that they cannot get places in university. And don't get me started about the Apartheid system. South Africa is not an ''ideal'''country. It has serious issues. |
