In actual fact, Nigeria never really defeated Biafra. What General Philip Effiong agreed to was a ceasefire. The Nigerian Government then twisted it to mean surrender. My father is an ex-Biafran soldier and he told me that at the end of the war, there were still over 40,000 active Biafran soldiers and the fighting could have gone on for years on end if they had wanted.

No, you got it wrong. Hardley any Biafran Soldier surrendered their weapon. What General Effiong announced was ceasefire. The terms of the ceasefire was Effiong went to discuss with Obasunjo which was he federal Government shamelessly misconstrued as surrender. Effiong said this in his book "Biafra: My story". Biafra never surrender to Nigeria.
