Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), on Sunday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, if the army chief fails to voluntarily resign following the revelation that he purchased properties worth $1.5m in Dubai.

Falana said in a statement that despite Buratai’s commendable feat of leading the Nigerian Army to defeat Boko Haram in the North East, the war on corruption was also a must-win for the Buhari Administration.

The lawyer ‎described as a “cock and bull story” the explanation by the Nigerian Army authorities that Buratai paid for the properties in installments through his personal savings.

He regretted that the name of the Nigerian Army had been “illegally” used to ‎defend the Buratai in the unfolding scam.

While he condemned the involvement of the Nigerian Army in defending Buratai, he said no one had yet to explain to Nigerians how an army General could manage to save $1.5m.

‎He added, “In view of the ban on the opening and operation of foreign accounts by public officers, the Code of Conduct Bureau should be involved in the investigation.

“If the Chief of Army Staff does not deem it fit to resign forthwith President Buhari should not hesitate to remove him in the interest of national morality.”

Falana commended the Buhari Administration for how it has handled cases involving military officers allegedly involved ‎in the diversion of the sum of $15bn meant for procurement of arms.

The diversion of the fund, he explained allowed the Boko Haram insurgents to kill about 25,000 Nigerians and displace two million others, including children.

He also said since the administration had assured Nigerians that there would be no sacred cow in the fight against corruption, Buratai should step down and allow a full scale scale investigation by the Arms Procurement Panel and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Since Buhari claim to be an Anti-corruption warlord, Let him sack Buratai (I doubt he will), And then Divorce his wife Aishaliburton for corruption. He has zero tolerance to corruption, don't he?

Truth be told, this is one veeery tough choice to make given the valour of our troops in the NE theatre ever since Buratai assumed his position.

Indeed he must have dipped his finger in the cookie jar in the previous admin and should be dealt with accordingly, but I fear for what would become of the war against the terrorists upon his removal- like peering into a dingy room out of which very eerie sounds are coming- frightening prospect to say the least.

Come what may, Baba knows how best to handle this immensely dicey situation- one false move and we are back where the Ineffectual Buffoon left us in the NE.

Falana says it - no matter whose ox is gored, take it or leave it. During the el-zakzaky fiasco, he spoke out vehemently against it. And he did condemn it when fuel subsidy was stopped some months ago and a host of other criticisms against the FG. Unfortunately whenever he does this, some people choose to see it as joining "the wailing gang", rather than seeing rightly as being open-minded that it's. Being a supporter does not muzzle your mouth from criticizing when things go wrong.

I think a middle ground position is to suspend him and then investigate his involvement in corruption. .. if found guilty he should be prosecuted and dropped immediately.

I still remain disappointed in PMB anti-corruption war which allows Saint Stealmore GEJ to walk around without answering for the obvious space and allowance he gave corruption. .. GEJ is no doubt involved in Dasuki stealing since he is the beneficiary of the crime. The war must be total.

Mor.ons and abees should know little attention will be paid to any senseless quote.

There's nothing like tough choice there. Buhari claims to be fighting corruption, he shld tackle corruption wherever it is found. Otherwise, those who say he's just persecuting his political opponents are right.

You fear for what will become of d fight against terrorists if Buratai is removed? Really? What a cheap defense for Buhari's obvious bias towards his 'trusted allies'. So without Buratai there is no Nigerian military?. If he really cared abt d war against Boko haram he wouldn't have diverted money meant for d fight to his personal use.

And in a bid to exonerate Buhari frm d mess u mentioned dat Buratai must have stolen d money in d last admin. So u didn't read dat he bought d second property after he became COAS. in which admin did he become COAS? Don't be a sycophant

Buratai, not only must he be sacked, he must also be prosecuted and d properties seized.
