When a market in Oshodi was recently demolished and the Yoruba owners of the shops moved on, their Igbo tenants were crying allover that they were being victimised for being Igbo, despite the market being populated by majority Yoruba. Several notices had also been given to the traders to relocate before the eventual demolition.

It has always been the curse of the immigrant to think that their host would suffer in the wake of their exit. Immigrants in USA, UK, France, Germany etc feel the same way, so it is no surprise Igbos feel the same about Lagos or Kano.

The mistake every immigrant tribe make is that once you leave, another ethnic grouping will fill the void. You do not contribute anything unique. You are there because you need to be there for greener pastures, not because you were implored to come render any help.

What is the global MPI?

The global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) is an international measure of acute poverty covering over 100 developing countries. It complements traditional income-based poverty measures by capturing the severe deprivations that each person faces at the same time with respect to education, health and living standards.

The MPI assesses poverty at the individual level. If someone is deprived in a third or more of ten (weighted) indicators (see left), the global index identifies them as ‘MPI poor’, and the extent – or intensity – of their poverty is measured by the number of deprivations they are experiencing.

The MPI can be used to create a comprehensive picture of people living in poverty, and permits comparisons both across countries, regions and the world and within countries by ethnic group, urban/rural location, as well as other key household and community characteristics.

Igbos are mainly traders that buy and sell on a daily basis, when they sell they deposit and when they want to buy they withdraw. The circle keeps repeating on a daily basis, my friend that is not a measure of development or wealth.

If I withdraw N5000 from Bank and bought a shoe for N4500 which I later sold for N5000 and deposited it back to the bank the same day, financial transaction for that day is recorded as N10,000 but I truly don't have that amount in reality. Imagine repeating the same thing on a daily basis and tell me what my financial transaction will be for a week not to talk of a month.

You just reason, how will anambra's financial transactions be higher than Lagos, port-harcourt, kano, Ibadan, ogun or Kaduna. These are the states with the highest GDP contributions in Nigeria. If anambra is that wealth Igbos won't be rushing down to Lagos and other South Western States on a daily basis.
