Hello OP, congrats on ur jobs. My advice 2 u is 2 keep ur Abeokuta job. These are my reasons: 1. Promotion: It's easier 2 rise in a company dat is just starting dan a company dat is already made. All dese multinatnals, dey're just selling names, growth prospects are very limited. 2. Knowledge: I suppose u're young & just starting ur career. U need a place where u can learn more, in dose multinatnals, learning opportunities are limited cos dey have many hands. Ask urself how do u see ur current place in d next 3yrs, do u think d business will grow so big with d approach&strategies being adopted? If yes, u can remain, if no den it's a goodbye. Op, name isn't everything especially when u're just starting. U need a place where u can learn a lot, den after gaining d much knowledge, u can den move 2 dose big names. |

Just passing through. . But before you make a desicon, just tell me how you intend to survive in Lagos on a salary of 50k every month (approx. 1500 Naira per day)? |
Re: Undecided Over Two Jobs Offers!!! Please Advice by xtremeidea(m): 9:59pm On Jul 13, 2016 |
If Abeokuta is paying better, its better u stay there. besides u can visit lagos weekends and stay for weekends. Lagos is expensive to live. even if you are to work in lagos for that same amount, here is a brief analysis of how ur income would be spent. 100 x 12 = 1,200,000 (assuming this is after tax and pension) Accommodation (depending on ur location) - 350k - 500k - assuming u work on the island and u want to consider proximity. Transport - 80k - 150k - depending on ur location. Feeding - 200 - 300k - depending on ur type of meal. Other expenses (NEPA, Recharge cards, Street security, gifts for ur babe) - 200k - 400k (i.e where the babe doesn not demand for iphone and ipad) Savings - 0 - 50k :' HOW MUCH REMAIN ( Please think twice my brother. you can only make it in Lagos if u earn armed robber salary. Be wise!!!! 4 Likes 1 Share |

They have all spoken well, but i never believed in a one man business. What are your growth prospects? If your boss wakes up on the wrong side of the bed can he just fire you? A standard multinational will have structures that don't leave your fate in the whims of one man. 13th month is usually 10% or so of your basic. You also talked about pensions which means your employer is contributing at least 15% of some of your pay for your future use. Finally, your next employer will rate you higher if you are coming from a multinational than if you were coming from an unknown company. Do not look at the short term, focus on the long term. The multinational won't include trainings in their offer but you will definitely get those. The Abeokuta job appears appealing but if I were to be in your shoes, i will take the multinational. It is easier to get another job in Lagos than it is from ab. I was in the same dilemma when a telco and a bank offered me jobs. The telco was more one man but paid better. I chose the bank for the singular reason I could move around better with the bank name and experience. Today i am happy I did. The name on my CV still wrought magic. The choice is yours to make, pray and be led by divine direction. I wish you well. 4 Likes |

50k...what are u gonna be doing with that in Lagos? If u pay rent and bills, what is gonna remain? or has someone promised u accommodation over there for free? If no, then that means u will be working for the landlords in Lagos.... |

hardbody:yimu. No Hard feelings @ first bolded : one man business could be relative as well as multinationals. Dangote doubles as one man business and as as multinational. it's not by multinational - there are many working in multinationals with no trainings and no promotions per say while some one man businesses readily sponsor people for trainings home and overseas. I am a witness. Also dangote sponsored some folks not too long ago. @second bolded : Go ask oil gas workers working/that worked in multinationals they will tell you more @third bolded : he was in jos when he applied and interviewed. One can get a job from anywhere. @ fourth bolded : you may have been happier if you chose to / remain in the telco company. Brother, a "multinational" company offering someone with some experience a 50k permanent position should close their business. 4 Likes 1 Share |

@OP, Your story is quite similar to mine. i actually took half my salary to join an MNC for growth purposes only to get the shocker of my life. I met harsher Job conditions, longer hours, stress, traffic, rude colleagues, career stagnation and worst of all financial struggle which I never faced at my former work place where I was earning double. Even at my former job I had offers to double the double coming from mid size firms which I rejected despite their pleas. Today, i am filled with regrets everyday I go to work but cant quit because im stuck . Moral of the story is that the grass is always greener on the other side. Stay in Abeokuta till the right offer comes. The Lagos job is not the right offer for now. 8 Likes 1 Share |

I suggest you and your father should open a "Multinational". |

victree007: I am happy for people like you. To be honest, it is not good to advice someone, "on career" if you dont know what is their PRIORITY in Life. You have to tell us what YOU want, from a job. What is your priority, or how ould your "ordered priority" look like? 1.) Money ( High Income, emoluments) ? 2.) Job Security and stability ( No emergency sacking like in the Civil Service)? 3.) Prestige (like in working for a bank or Oil company?) 4.) Self development (lie working for an audit firm like Accenture, where you probably will undergo training and certifications almost every year)? 5.) Future looking ( some jobs develop you to become a Leader in the future) It is based on your own priority, that one can offer advice that will suit your intent and aspirations. The danger of telling you what to do now is that l (or anyone) would be telling YOU what to do, based on our own priorities..... which may not align with yours! or do you think what you want from a job is essentially what everyone else want from a job? Dont forget, you NEEDS are not the same with your WANTS..... and these would change as you get older and your priorities change. For example, a single man with a kid would prefer job stability over higher income ..... because he knows what could happen if that "high salary" suddenly evaporates! Again, someone who made a 3rd Class out of University, will (should) be more interested in doing higher level training/courses to cover potential deficiencies that such grade may bring, going forward! these are just two examples. WHAT ARE YOUR PRIORITIES, in order of preference? Lastpage! BTW: discount out that "Insurance and Pension"! It does not work that way! You wont likely work long enough in your job to think about "pension". Also, insurance for staff is currently just a "scam" to take part of your money (as they do with pension contribution), as they dont intend to pay anything substantial to you..... except you have a "death-wish" sha! Those two dont really count for anything, at this stage. |

majekdom2: OK sir. You win, i lose. I hope that resolves it and perhaps neutralises the yimu My views are mine and i hold onto them. I will not join issues with you on the matters you raised. Let history vindicate the just. Last word, i have no reason to misdirect the op, note my closing comments. The monies he is making or will make are his to keep, so I honestly have no motive to lead him astray. I re-emphasize that the choice is his to make. I chuckled at Dangote being a one man business though. Brilliant analogy, just like Mike Adenuga and Mike adeojo, lol. By the way, your clairvoyance did not work, the telco packed up. I had since continued to change jobs at will, but i know how terminal it had been with a few of the contacts I met in that telco. No one knows it all sir, i recommend that people should analyse well and thereafter follow their minds. 1 Like |
