To a large extent, these rules are enforced except for the 9th one.
I've only seen a trailer with latched container once and it wasn't on the road.
Most of the containers are latched but may not be visible. The original and most reliable way to latch a container is through the hook under.

To the onlooker it seems not latched, but it is. That long chain that is usually seen, is both dangerous and unreliable.

The last one is 1k for all offences.

Paid to police.

That is why I tell people, if police catch u and u can not call an of ur friends in the force, no follow them to any where oooo

No dey form right cos by the time they bring out ur official fine, u will calm down but it will already be too late.
That's why they say Police is your friend...just play da game with them and you go enjoy them....

Wow. Not even a single state in the US has that type of law. Is that supposed to reduce global warming or something? Because I know smoking cigarettes doesn't cause any impairments while driving.
Check again plz. It's an offence to smoke in some public areas and even drink as well

Smoking while driving: N20,000 for first time offenders and N30,000 for subsequent offenders.

How is this a crime? Did you mean drinking while driving? Why can't a smoker smoke cigarettes in his or her own car if he or she desires? Weird. Never heard of that type of law before.

"to a traffic officer"

what about physical assault to the driver by the traffic officer?

apparently thats what seem to be in vogue
I know some of the traffic officer could be overzealous when performing their duties, I believe if the driver should obey simple order, there won't be anything called assault.

Re: 10 Driving Offences In Lagos And Their Penalties by rhymaholic: 9:35am On Jul 14, 2016
This Lastma police that you'd give 2,000 naira when you break any of this rules and they'd leave you immediately. Sanity would be brought to our roads if this laws are strictly enforced, especially the trucks and containers who don't strap their container vessels, the lives that have been lost due to the carelessness of some drivers driving this trucks is unquantifiable. Government should do more in the implementation of this laws.

Wow. Eating while driving is also an offence? How are we expected to eat the snacks sold on the roads in the crazy traffic with two hands on the steering wheel? Just swallow?
Who and who made these types of laws?
It is an offence to buy snacks bought on the roads in traffic. It is punishable by paying a fine of N90,000 or 3 months in prison.

Was laughing hard at number 10. That means most of the BRT buses will have to be taken off the road...

what about using phone and driving?
AutoJoshNG:
Ignorance of the law, they say is not an excuse. In order not to find yourself in a fix with the law enforcement officers, kindly read through the listed traffic offences in Lagos and their penalties:

1)Driving without valid driver's license: Your vehicle will be impounded. For the vehicle to be released, you have to present evidence that you have paid for a new license. You also have to pay for the vehicle's storage at the agency's facility..

2)Driving of any vehicle by persons under 18 years old: N20,000 for first time offenders and N30,000 for subsequent offenders. The vehicle will be impounded and a vehicle storage fee will be paid be its release.

3)Learner driver without permit: N20,000 for first time offenders and N30,000 for subsequent offenders. You must present evidence of payment for learner's permit and storage fee must be paid before the impounded vehicle is released.

4)Driving an unlicensed vehicle: N20,000 for first time offenders and N30,000 for subsequent offenders. You may also be imprisoned for 3 years.

5)Physical assault to a traffic officer: N50,000 and/or 6 months imprisonment.

6)Driving a right hand vehicle: N20,000 for first time offenders and N30,000 for subsequent offenders. The vehicle must be converted to a left hand drive immediately.

7)Driving without valid vehicle documents: The vehicle will be impounded. It will only be released after you present evidence of payment for the outstanding vehicle document(s) e.g vehicle license, road worthiness etc.

coolSmoking while driving: N20,000 for first time offenders and N30,000 for subsequent offenders.

9)Driving a trailer or other vehicle carrying unlatched and unsecured containers: The fine is N250,000 and the vehicle will be impounded.

10)Excessive smoke emission: N20,000 for first time offenders and N30,000 for subsequent offenders.

It will be a big relief to several Lagosians if some of these policies and penalties are implemented to the fullest especially the unlatched containers and the excessive smoke emission.

To buy snacks on the road is also an offence? Who are the sellers supposed to sell to? Themselves? I think these law makers are losing it.

Driving is becoming a lot of nightmare especially in Lagos. Please can someone help educate us on which documents these officials should statutorily look out for on Lagos (Nigerian) roads:
1) Road Safety
2) VIO
3) LASTMA
4) Traffic Warden
5) Police Federal Highway
6) NDLEA
7) Customs
Etc
Thanks
