Re: Jobs/vacancies Section Chatroom by Sleekyshuga(f): 12:20pm On Jul 16, 2016 |
amicable09: Yeah, there is black soup. It's a delicacy eaten by the Edo (Benin) people. The leaves (bitter leaf, scent leaf, and sometimes, uziza leaf) gives it that color. Preferably, use banga oil instead of palm oil. It gives it this local flavor. I wouldn't say I really liked it because of the bitter leaf but the chunks of meat were things to eye . We used to eat it from small earthenware pots. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Sleekyshuga, thanks for your snippet on Black soup. It was actually the best soup I had in my Uniben days. If prepared by a good Bini cook, you'll definitely enjoy it. I did the only time I had it |

I think I'm missing out on some parts of being a Nigerian Do you know how to prepare it Shuga? I'll like to know if the bitterleaf is washed first before using it for preparation of the soup. |

amicable09:Hahahahaha @ having an Edo friend. Goan cook it yourself jare . Surprise the house this weekend as the Internet has made cooking very easy. I follow lot of food blogs especially @dooneyskitchen. She gives me joy . I haven't prepared it before but I think I can. Mum was the one who prepared it, though it's not an everyday soup in my house, and it's very tasty (my family attested to it). About the bitter leaf, we washed first (to remove the bitterness) before chopping into bits, and blending with grinding stone. Omo!! We all learned how to use that stone even though there was mortar and blender . N/B: You need very little oil to achieve this soup. Ferdyboss:Hehehehehehe!! Well, I wouldn't mind trying it again . 1 Like |

Sleekyshuga:No way! No way! I say no way!!! Lol. What sort of hard labour is this? Would have been easier if I was in jail and they bring this up under skill acquisition/punishment The soup hard abeg. I'll wait for my future Edo friend to take me to their family house when they prepare the meal. |
Re: Jobs/vacancies Section Chatroom by Sleekyshuga(f): 1:33pm On Jul 16, 2016 |
amicable09:LMAO ! You this girl! Just marry an Edo man that can cook so that he will wow you . You cook ukazi soup, right? It's something like that. It's not hard . And the grinding stone isn't a must. You can use a blender. Your fear is washing the bitter leaf? Hahahahaha!! My dear, I form sickness whenever it's my turn to wash. Thank God for my kid bro, and granny. My nails are very precious jare. Well, you can buy washed bitter leaf from the market, rinse in water with a pinch of salt, and blend. |

Sleekyshuga:Lolz. Na so e easy reach? Oh! I just remembered I have one Edo bf here on NL. My fear is actually in the grinding. The sound of grinding bitter leaf alone sends fear down my spine. I will look up the recipe now online and visit that blog you frequent every once in a while. |
