Seems We Haven't See The End To Fuel Scarcity in Naija The newly introduced foreign exchange policy that indirectly devalued the value of the naira, has tremendously changed banks’ lending dynamics, compelling them to reject fresh loans for importation of petrol, otherwise known as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS ), New Telegraph has learnt. Already, lenders in Nigeria have discarded the N49 billion loan requests from importers of petrol meant to service the 3.5 million metric tons second quarter allocation schedule.https://newtelegraphonline.com/banks-reject-loan-requests-fuel-imports/ |

"Buhari is stubborn, he refused to devalue the Naira" rhetoric seems to have gone down since the CBN did it.Despite allowing the supposed devaluation, is the exchange rate favourable? The old man wasn't convinced about it but had to bow to pressure.,my opinion though. |

mayorchelsea:To devalue a currency when the country is not exporting makes no sense, Nigeria is an import based economy thus the crisis we face. Everyone must brace up. I am buying a litre of Petrol for about N300 per litre here in Kenya and out of which the Kenyan government collects about N135 as its own taxes and levies! |

Pavore9:Nairaland is full of different people with different ideas which is a beauty but when there is a discussion on certain things that affects all like security and economy and you have a different view, people see you as a zombie or Buharist. Why devalue when we aren't exporting much?we are a mono-economy overtly dependent on oil yet they demanded for devaluation and accused the presidency of not concurring and now that it's been done,we're still facing same issues. |

I need to understand something. Why do the importers regularly require loans to import petrol and others. if the importers have been making successive profits over time, since i'm sure they have been importing for years now, shouldn't they have saved enough of their profits to now be self sustainable so that they wouldn't need to go for bank loans every time. |

This piece shows that Nigeria economy did not become comatose due to the last one year policy but has been distressing gradually over a period of time specifically since 2009 meltdown but was been patched by oil boom of the last 5years but was wantonly looted by our rogue leaders; now there is no excess income,we have to stood down! |
| Re: Banks Reject Loan Requests For Fuel Imports by mayorchelsea(m): 4:03pm On Jul 18, 2016 |
ideykwum:I'm in no position to reply YES or NO to your question. Nigerians clamoured;asking him to listen to the voice of various economists and analysts saying devaluation would help so much as regards the exchange rate of the naira to a dollar, fast forward to this minute after finally agreeing, can we say it's working? You know the answer, good day to you. |
