I'm not in favor of a single AU passport.
The individual 54 African countries should maintain their unique passports, because it is one of the strongest symbols of sovereignty which shouldn't be dispensed with.

I'd prefer the enactment of an AU treaty which will grant African citizens some limited intra-Africa freedom of movement. For eg, Africans wouldn't need a visa to visit another African country if the period of stay doesn't exceed 30 or 60 days.

To what end that's the kind of thing nigerian go carry first.so the proverbial libyan herdsmen can troupe into se/ss since ecowas trick failed to nail it cos libyans aren't west Africans. Ppl enter treaties that benefits their ppl, how does this benefit Nigeria? No it benefits only other countries who will now troupe into the proverbial giant of Africa and most important for buhari and his fraternity: the nigerian herdsmen i know the zomguys will come for me. For just one bad reason: igboman

Why must it be RED?

Because the one in the picture is a diplomatic passport which must be red in colour.

The one for ordinary citizens will be another colour.

I can see 5 different languages on it, even Zulu. On behalf of the major tribes in Nigeria, particularly Yoruba, Hausa/Fulani and Igbo, i reject the passport in its entirety. How can Zulu language be on it without these larger and wider languages of Nigerian descent?

why cover everywhere up with Arabicjust a Mathematician view point,no harm meant.

Which everywhere? "Diplomatic passport" was written in 4 other African (lingua Franca) languages. You do know the whole of North Africa are Arabs right?

This knee jerk reaction shows ur problem is now a psychological issue.

great idea , but I think africa is too big to be one . I think each geographic region should be one country like the map below . Westland, Southland ,Northland,Eastland, Midland. Madagascar.

If AFRICA is TOO BIG to be one, what bout USA?

It's the first step taken towards the general one. They are actually planning a general AU passport but first starting with this. There is a thread OK Nairaland on that.

It's no news that the AU have proposed to launch a diplomatic passport for its African citizens, this they said was to be modeled after EU's type. Well, today, the African Union successfully launched its diplomatic African passport, the passport was launched at the opening ceremony of the 27th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union.
