SergeAlain:

Our state of equipment and technology in the armed forces is poor, but it is still hundred times better than the state of the softer things which go such a long way to determine troop morale, things like care for the wounded, entitlements for the dead, supply of non-weapon items to troops on the field e.g. medicals, sanitary items etc. Sadly it is these things that make the difference between a developed military and an underdeveloped one, and no one seems to be seriously thinking of addressing these things.

I once was carried in a taxi in PH by an ex sergeant who fought in Liberia and got a medal for gallantry, and he told me his harrowing experience after being shot in the leg and almost lost his leg. Ultimately it took the direct intervention of his CO who was aware of his uncommon bravery for him to be included among those evacuated to Egypt where his leg was saved. By the time he finished his story, this tough man had tears in his eyes. this was in early 2000s. This is almost 20 years later and sadly the stories are much the same.

When will we learn

Av not heard People on these thread or other talk about non-weapon supplies to frontline troops. I downloaded videos frm youtube of recent, in the video a U.S army was shot by a sniper , and immediately is blood type was administered to him also in is back pack personnel wool & bandage etc

If such system is introduced in our army it will go along way to save lives on the field and increase troops morale.

TROOPS RESCUES 38 WOMEN AND 42 CHILDREN

Following confirmed intelligence report on the convergence and massing up of dislodged Boko Haram terrorists at Garere village in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, with intent of carrying out attack on some isolated communities, troops on fighting and clearance patrol Codenamed “Operation TIGER CLAW” yesterday Tuesday 19th July 2016 swooped on the terrorists.

During the ensuing operation, 42 Boko Haram terrorists were killed, while unconfirmed number of the insurgents escaped with gunshot wounds.

Similarly, 38 women and 42 children held captives were rescued from the insurgents. The women and children were taken to the military medical facility in Baga for checks. They were further assisted with food and clothing.

The patrol team also recovered 504 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, 162 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, 1 Land Cruiser Jeep, 34 Jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Automated Gas Oil (AGO), while 55 Motorcycles were demobilized during the operation.

The troops have continued to intensify vigilance and maintained high level of alertness. They are making concerted efforts to clear the remnants of the terrorists in their area of responsibilities.

In a related development, suspected elements of Boko Haram terrorists at the early hours of today, attacked Bakin Dutse community in which they killed one person and injured 4 other persons. Unfortunately, they took to their heels on arrival of troops. The troops have continued to patrol the general area with the hope of finding and apprehending the attackers.

Similarly, troops on routine patrol in order to secure and make Kumshe-Banki road open, were ambushed by 4 suspected Boko Haram terrorists. The troops engaged them and 3 of them died as a result of gun shot wounds. The lone survivor is currently being interrogated. It is heart-warming to state that he has been making very useful statements that are very revealing.

Thank you for your kind and usual cooperation.

It is definitely not true. A bunch of paid hacks dishing out meaningless propaganda. $256 million or so to mercenaries, quite a hilarious amount been brandished.

They even changed from Blackwater to Xe, before Academi. Anyway, i don't expect anything meaningful from paid hacks and their gullible, incurable followers. I just have so much pity for Vanguardngr.com, they used to be "the go to source".

I can say with certainty that we won't see any proper Corvette or Frigate purchase from the Navy for the next 5 years. The service would only purchase additional patrol vessels as they are been starved of funds.

We classify them as Frigates in NN service, anyway by Tonnage they are though.

POLICE, DSS PLAN IMPROVED COLLABORATION AGAINST INSECURITY

POLICE personnel and their Directorate of State Services (DSS) counterparts have commenced moves aimed at improving the collaboration in fight against insecurity in the country.

Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, who spoke when he visited headquarters of the agency said the force needed to seek the cooperation as it was only through synergy with relevant security agencies that the country can overcome the current security challenges.

According to him, it was necessary for the Nigeria Police under his watch to initiate the partnership drive since the constitution of the country vests the security of lives and property in the Nigeria Police Force.

Responding, the Director General, DSS, Mr Lawal Musa Daura, said he was grateful with the visit, assuring the acting IGP that the Department of State Security Services will give maximum support and cooperation to the drive of the IGP in ensuring that the country overcomes the security challenges in the country.

He further said the cooperation was incumbent on the DSS as the agency has historical link with the Nigeria Police, observing that the country was expecting more from the IGP, having seen his track record in policing that span within Nigeria and abroad.

Wow!!! Interesting how significantly the battledress of the Nigerian army has changed especially in the last few years of the Boko haram crisis. It is still not uhuru, but it has certainly moved in the right direction.

We just need to enshrine strategies for identifying and implementing these positive changes in our military without waiting for negatives experiences which may lead to needless losses of life etc.

TROOPS RECOVER GUN TRUCK AND RAN INTO AMBUSH AT GONGON

Today morning, troops on clearance patrol at Guro Gongon village and environs to rout out remnants of Boko Haram terrorists hibernating therein, destroyed the terrorists’ makeshift camps and recovered quite a number of weapons, equipment and foodstuff in the process.

The recovered items include 1 Gun truck mounted with an Anti-Aircraft Gun, a MOWAG Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade Tube, 1 Light Machine Gun, 3 AK-47 rifles and motorcycles.

However, the gallant soldiers basking on the recorded success, returning to their defensive locations, ran into an ambush by a group of Boko Haram terrorists who came to reinforce their fleeing comrades. The troops fought back gallantly killing several of the insurgents.

Sadly however, 19 soldiers and 3 civilian JTF members were wounded in action while a few others were missing in action.

The wounded have been evacuated and are responding to treatment, while a search and rescue party comprising of Special Forces personnel has since been dispatched to establish contact with the missing in action troops, some of whom, as at the time of filing this report, have started returning to their defensive location.

It is pertinent to state that, no stone would be left unturned until every person involved in the operation has been accounted for.

Thank you for your usual cooperation.
