As Gov. Okorocha demolishes and builds in the state capital, see the hole he dug to collect floods at the centre of the state's second most populated town, Orlu. He did this instead of completing a gutter less than 800 meters length to channel all the town's floods to a nearby valley, a drainage project started by a former governor of Imo state.

If Okorocha had rescued the people in Okigwe and Orlu by asphalting their roads which his contractors scrapped and abandoned in the last four years, perhaps, the uproar against his bulldozers in Owerri may be muted.

He is a governor with a later-day obsession with a false idea that a state's capital must have more than 95% share of whatever modernity his govt can provide in a state.

But in 2011, he campaigned with a mantra that Imo government house shall rotate from one area to the other. People voted him for that.

Okigwe and Orlu have good roads. Stop spreading falsehood because of hate because I am here to debunk them to free my conscience. The only road that was poorly constructed in Okigwe is Owerri Road but it has only 2 bad spots in its entire length. I visited Reverend Mann, Agiriga, Okpara Road, Abakpa, Ubahu and almost the entire inner roads are good. Orlu has several good dualised major roads and maybe only 2 or 3 bad roads in the entire township. No city in Nigeria no matter how small is devoid of several bad roads.

Condemn the demolitions but stop the lies and unfounded hatred.

This is very simple.

Follow the rules of laws in your State.

It is not the job of the Government,to relocate people who build illegal structures,on grounds they should first of all not have gone near.

And one thing I know, and that is the part of the story we usually never hear. Government usually, sometimes for years tell them to move, but many usually stay put and then we get this kind of pictures.

I stand on the side of good Governance.

No to illegal structures.
I think somebody must be daring as a leader to maintain order . This exactly is what the Governor is doing in the state. Painful as it is,but those who broke the law are simply paying for their stupidity .

There's no problem demolishing illegal structures. The problem is when you start demolishing every and any structure for reasons in your head.
A man wakes up one morning and decides to expand all roads in town at the same time(when all roads outside town are in serious disrepair) and brings down all structure even though they have are approved by the town planning commission and have an adequate spacing from the road. He has refused the court injunction to stop work and nothing can be done because of his immunity. Half of the city in in shambles presently. With the present recession, is this really the best time for demolition and destruction
The worst issue is that, Rochas doesn't finish his projects. He has brought down all these structures ( legal and illegal alike) for nothing. Examples of abandoned projects are: owerri at 40 estate, general Hospitals in every local government, underground carpark, fly over in akwakuma, numerous roads etc.

A true scammer at work.

Please, I apologize in advance if anyone gets pissed off with my comment. If these structures are illegal, I dont c anything wrong with demolishing them, but if they r legal, compensation should b paid.... Fashola demolished more n Lagos is better for t. I spent about one month at Owerri n just returned to Lagos few weeks ago..... In terms of construction, we would b wrong to say he isnt getting t right, he is doing REALLY REALLY well in that aspect. D speed with which he built the tunnel along federal Secretariat road still baffles me n there z another one ongoing, dont know if its finished now. Mbari street z also taking a new look. The tarring of inner streets n creation of entirely new roads out of "nowhere" has really eased traffic, example being one I saw along old nekede road (dont know if its completed now) n another while heading to Obinze from Saint Paul which have been completed. I dont really know of other local governments cos I didnt travel out of the capital, but in the capital, he is really trying. Even heard of late that he z cleaning up Douglas road by removing those traders who have completely destabilized the area, although Im sure some people will come here to use t against him. Someone presently in Imo can help us confirm that, but if its true, ITS AN HIGHlY WELCOME DEVELOPMENT ........... My joy n that of many imolites will however greatly increase if a solution to the annoying hold up at Warehouse can be found cos the holdup there z always annoying. Im not trying to hold brief for anyone, I'm just saying we shouldnt tell lies cos we dont support someone's political affiliation or ideology. (By d way, d major grievance against him was d non-payment of salaries n by d week i left Imo, he hd started paying t, so I say congratulations to Imo civil servants on that)

#I'm sure some people won't agree with my post, so instead of insults, I'll be ready for correction if anything i wrote is declared wrong#

Do I really feel sorry for these kinda people? I dont. We live in a society where people behave like goats and live ONLY for the present with d assumption of being "sharp" without any recourse to future implications of actions and inactions. If you have duly paid 4 ur land and obtained all necessary cover documents, there is no govt on earth that will be able to demolish ur property without compensation. Where I live permanently in Minna gave me an insight into how unruly Nigerians can be without close monitoring and policing. People removed their beacons and started their parameter fence OUTSIDE d demarkation of their approved land thereby squeezing d space meant 4 roads n drainages to access d area when devt started speeding up. In Ilorin (where I presently live) ALL d settlement I have seen (apart from probably GRA) are totally messed up because of people's stupidity in d name of being sharp. 10 yrs frm now with d way things are, all d tanke and Gaa akanbi axis will be inaccessible by car and Im sure this is how we behave all over d country. Lemme not even start mentioning all d hazardous liquid wastes we dispose throught holes in our fences unto these eroded roads to add to calamity. That is why when sane governments come to power, people that have never done the right thing in their lives begin to suffer!

Owerri has very few bad roads if you are being truthful. Don't misrepresent facts because of politics. Some of the roads he is reconstructing now were reconstructed in his 1st tenure but then he was doing window dressing because the Government at the center was against him making him unable to take difficult decisions that might infuriate the masses. He was a populist Governor but not very purposeful. What I am seeing in his 2nd tenure is actual solution and to develop a lot of sacrifices must be made by all.

I commend him for taking the bull by the horn but what must be done is to compensate the poor who survived at the shanties and illegal structures. I know the structures are illegal but sometimes we tamper justice with mercy because of the economic conditions we are facing at the moment.

Well no need to drag this further, by God's grace, we are all hale and hearty, when the chips are down, we will assess his performance.

Enough of spewing nonsense in the name of getting Governor Okorocha down.

It's not your fault.

Your once hardly known community of Akwakuma near Owerri must now have benefited from more government development infrastructure than Orlu;

Akwakuma may now be more populated than Orlu owing to Gov. Okorocha's policy of having Owerri with surrounding communities as the only area worthy of placing his development projects.

For your information, in 1976 when Imo state was created, the three towns of Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe had little or no difference in their levels of urbanization.
