Farmers Will Not Pay Any Mandatory Protection Fees, Ogbeh Assures by Gistarena(m): 10:59pm On Jul 22, 2016
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development – Chief Audu Ogbeh has assured Nigerian farmers that there would be no mandatory fees for protecting them and their farms under the Civil Defence Corps special force unit being planned in conjunction with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

He gave the assurance today while reacting to a news report published in a daily newspaper and circulated in the social media alleging that he said Nigerian farmers would be made to pay fees to be protected under the scheme.

The claims, which have generated huge controversies, were drawn from a media report after the Honourable Minister’s media interview at the State House, following the endorsement of the Road map of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Green Alternative.

The Minister wishes to reassure Nigerian farmers that no security fees will be imposed on them, and that the government will continue to protect and support them with relevant incentives to help them grow and stay in business, adding that the special unit force idea was primarily conceived to protect Nigerian farmers in fulfilment of government’s responsibility to secure the lives and properties of its citizens, in addition to providing security at the proposed ranches to guard against rustlers and prevent the cows from wandering around.

For the avoidance of doubt, and to clear the confusion that has been generated by the media report, the Honourable Minister wishes to state unequivocally that the NSCDC officials will be available on request by big farm corporation especially those in which the owners live, who can apply for them just as big companies and corporate organisations apply, requesting for security personnel to secure their businesses for a token.

Chief Ogbeh urges the Nigerian public to therefore ignore the mischievous stories in circulation that the Minister will impose some fees on all farmers, big and small, for security services to be offered by the NSCDC. He further encourages Nigerians to remain hopeful that with the implementation of the new policy roadmap for Nigeria’s Agricultural development, the economy will improve and the present food crisis and hardship being faced by Nigerians will be over.

Trial and Error govt
they deny it, later on they will come up with one baseless corruption case against one of their opponents to deviate our attention, and the zombbies will fall for them only to find out that nothing comes out their corruption hunts, before they(zombbies) will come back to what the fg denied, they will come back only to realise the policy is already working. And the chain continues.

Stupid.

How much did the fulani herdsmen pay before the government decided to protect them from cattle rustlers?

Government talking about diversifying the economy yet, the same government want farmers to pay voluntary protection fees. I begin to wonder, what then is the function of government if it can't protect its citizens

This man is the worst performing minister in this Govt. Akinwumi left a solid foundation before joining the ADB, all buhari wudda done was to nominate someone who had worked directly under akinwumi to continue his legacies, only for to bring back a recycled Old politician to tear down Akinwumi's legacies.

APC and Nairalies go together. What happens to smaller farmers who cannot and do not know how and where to apply? The bottomline is that the Minister and his ministry are LYING to themselves and their gullible followers.
Everybody knows how individuals and corporate organs get the police for security after requesting. IT IS NOT FREE at all! And NSCDC of recent after being empowered with arms are doing the police thing: money for hand, back for ground.
But come to think of it, is this government reasoning from the anus? Farmers have cried a lot and have been dealt with enough, and so do not need the application protocol to have government security.
This government is anti-people and pro-cows and goats, what an irony!

Why is this man playing with words?
If people are being asked to pay 'tokens' to have access to security, it simply means that it is up for those who can afford it. In other words government who is constitutionally mandated to protect the people is now using state resources to protect the wealthy to the exclusion of the poor (who will not be able to afford the 'token').
I weep for this country. The mafia bosses have taken over and are now demanding protection fees from farmers.
