THE final journey of Nigeria football legend Stephen Okechukwu Keshi will begin in Benin City, Edo State today. On Wednesday, the Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that the final rites would now be confined to Edo and Delta States.

The NFF delegation to the final rites will be led by the President, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, and will include, among others, Mr. Frank Ilaboya (Chairman of the Edo State Football Association), Mr. Neville Bekederemo (Chairman of NPFL side Warri Wolves FC) and Mr. Edema Fuludu (Chairman of Delta State League Management Company).

Stephen Keshi To Be Buried Tomorrow July 29

Nigeria’s football legend Stephen Late Stephen Keshi’s burial ceremony is slated to kickoff today in Benin the capital of Edo State.

Chairman of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick is to head a delegation to Edo and Delta State which the final rites would now be confined to include Mr. Frank Ilaboya (Chairman of the Edo State Football Association), Mr. Edema Fuludu (Chairman of Delta State League Management Company) and Mr. Neville Bekederemo (Chairman of NPFL side Warri Wolves FC).

Keshi, one of only two men to have won the Africa Cup of Nations as player and as coach, died in Benin City on Wednesday, 8th June at the age of 54.

Keshi became coach of the Nigerian National Team in 2011. He led Nigeria to qualification for the 2013 African Cup of Nations which they went on to win, defeating Burkina Faso 1–0 in the final. The following day Keshi handed in his resignation, only to reverse his decision the day after.

Keshi led Nigeria to the 2013 Confederation Cup, defeated Taiti 6–1, and lost 1–2 to Uruguay in the second game, and also lost 0–3 to World Cup winners, Spain in their final group game.

Keshi’s Nigeria qualified Nigeria to the 2014 World Cup On 16 November 2013, by beating Ethopia 4–1 on aggregate in a playoff. Stephen Keshi also set a record in African football by being the first African coach to successfully qualify two African nations (Nigeria and Togo) to the World Cup Finals. He also helped Nigeria become the first country to achieve an African Cup of Nations trophy and World Cup qualification, both in 2013

Reports from the family confirmed that, stephen Keshi’s remains will be interred at his hometown, Illah, on Friday, July 29
