No one is shutting down embassies, they are closing some consulates and missions, not embassies. |

cktheluckyman:There is no point having so much people working at the embassy displaying low standards of operations. Don't forget we will be paying most of them in dollars. |

You see another problem Nigeria has "interest groups". If Nigeria is broke and running low on forex, once the FG decides to do the right thing by restricting items to discourage importation, some interests groups will package themselves as experts analyzing rubbish in media houses thereby mounting unnecessary pressure on Government. Their only interest is themselves, a black man lacks humanities hence he is only concerned about what comes into his pocket, whether others live or die, he doesn't care. What is difficult for an expert or analyst to understand that the country's source of income (oil) is threatened? anyways, what do you expect an Ambassador to say? a product of the same system that needs to be pruned? We spend so much maintaining these foreign offices paying huge forex on extacodes not adding corruption that comes with anything nigeria to the mix yet a so called analyst will say no, leave the embassy to pursue foreign policy, you can imagine how ret@rded people are. Our foreign office in Libya could not handle a simple evacuation Process during the Libyan crisis, the plane that left Nigeria came back near empty while the Ambassador and family were the first to board, most of those Nigerians were eventually killed, that shows you how ineffective these so called foreign missions are, who knows what is happening to Nigerians in Syria and the CAR? Once your passport expires abroad to renew it is WAEc yet we have missions, consulates embassies littered everywhere. it is so bad that the Nigerian Amb to libya had no idea how many Nigerians are in Libya. Every of our foreign policy implementation framework is designed at home, the President still fly everywhere to consolidate diplomatic ties, the only need for the so called Amb. is to welcome the President at the airport end of story, when was the last time you heard that a Nigerian ambassador met with the president of any home country to discuss issues affecting Nigerians in that country? Have you ever heard that any Nigerian Amb. secured any trade/Economic deal for Nigeria or even initiate negotiations? confused Presidents before now use ambassadorial appointments as a political pat on the back , imagine Jonathan giving Bianca an ambassadorial slot, that is how low and ineffective we have reduced our foreign missions. Buhari we are with you send them home, they can learn a trade if they like!! |

sapiosexual1:Those Middle eastern and Arab countries you mentioned are his brothers hence though keeping embassies there is a total waste of our natural resources both human and cash he did not close them. the truth is that there is no Arab nation that is of benefit to Nigeria but he can't close any but will rush to close the ones in non arab nations. |

I think more consulates and embassies should be permanently closed...a number of them are not performing any meaningful activities, just draining the government expenses. |

sapiosexual1:This comment is why you are sapiosexual. What criteria did the government use to assess that BRAZIL, the country where we are about to visit for the Olympics, is not worth anything to us ? Isn't this the same country with Petrobras, The National oil company that we so admire and are trying to have the NNPC emulate I am so beyond frustrated with this... what kind of myopia is this?? Coming from Onyeama this is unacceptable!!! I'd argue that African missions be the first to go sef... at least in places like Algeria, etc. This country beats me down each morning, it's too mentally, emotionally and spiritually abusive. |
