*As victims regain freedom after six months in captivity By Emma Nnadozie, Crime Editor The recent release from captivity of a prominent Lagos-based businessman (name withheld for security reasons) by his abductors has, once again, thrown the densely populated Festac Town and Amuwo-Odofin areas into fear. The 45-year-old businessman of Igbo extraction, who resides in Festac area with members of his family, spent virtually six months under the close watch of his abductors who ignored all entreaties by his friends and family to free him. This was after they released huge sums of money requested as ransom by the kidnappers in different occasions to them, yet they refused to set him free. Their grouse, according to family sources, was to ensure that all the millions of naira he realised from his business ventures were exhausted else he would pay the supreme prize. In addition, his abductors were said to have reprimanded members of his family for getting security agents involved in the matter hence they decided to ‘punish them’. |

Everybody is chasing ijaw militants and fighting over ND militants. I just hope the security forces are not barking the wrong tree |

EMMYLBANKS:I'm an oduduwa descendant and i'm not blaming so-called ijaw militants on an ethnic mission. this is pure criminality and i believe there are Yoruba children among them. Surely there are ijaws there but it's totally wrong and evil to give it a purely ethnic coloration. These criminals are simply after their pockets and don't care about no tribes man. Arepo pipeline vandalism didn't start today and they're patronized by all tribes residing in Lagos. The same network of crooks i believe are also behind the spate of kidnappings reported here. |

EMMYLBANKS:So how do people from that side comment? Do you think Soyinka is also not an Oduduwa descendant since he even went to jail for biafra? It's also myopic for Igbos to think these criminal activities don't affect them because they can obviously be found all over Lagos including Ikorodu and Festac that this report is based on. |

So the moral of the story is Igbo go get rich one way or another, whether its owning spare parts store or kidnapping his brother that owns spare parts store. Chukwu abiama! ![]() |
