THE WOUNDS OF WAR. SOUTH SUDAN CRISES

Juba is the capital city of oil rich South Sudan and the situation there is just a step away from full fledged war. Presently, the citizens are flocking to the safety of refugee camps which are already overflowing with thousands.

Five month pregnant Maryiam screams with pain as a gaping bullet wound in her leg is cleaned and treated by a nurse.

She is just seventeen years old and a month ago, after seeing her husband and first son, a toddler, killed in her presence, was gang rapped repeatedly by the soldiers for several days before she managed to escape from the hell that was her part of the capital. She is just one of the hundreds of patients who have gathered at the small open-air clinic in the grounds of St Theresa's - the Roman Catholic cathedral in Juba.

On Sunday, they sang for peace as a Nigerian cardinal, visiting from the Vatican, held the service and then delivered a letter from the Pope to President Salva Kiir, asking him - and his deputy - for that very same thing.

War is indeed real and can start from either a mistake between two political parties, two ethnic groups or just two important people.
