You see, this's the problem with our so called youths...instead of you guys to discuss about the propriety of this action on the economic front, you're busy defending your religion.

Very daft response from a direction-less govt. Whether the policy was approved three or ten months ago is inconsequential but its impact on the nation's economy. A mockery of the so-called waste control and frugality of Buhari's deceitful govt. In a country faced with acute forex contraption the last decision a reasonable govt can take is to subsidise voluntary pilgrimage and increase pressure on its currency.

And for those bringing religious colouration into this argument, just continue in your foolery. What should be of paramount concern to any Nigerian is the negative impact this policy portends for the nation's fragile economy and not a Christians-Muslim diversionary postulations.

Was this your view when it was done for Christian pilgrims?

If not, you're a typical example of HYPOCRITE.

Our economy is seriously bleeding. Henceforth anyone who wants to go for pilgrimage should sponsor him or herself. That's all.

Its not a matter of religion, its a matter of reality.

Your claim that the discount was done on equal footing is a lie; a distortion of the truth. The Muslim pilgrims got rates that were almost 80% better than the Christian pilgrims.

But that is not even the point

Back then, forex was not so scarce and government could afford to subsidize; now we live in a new Nigeria where forex is extreme scarce and the economy is bleeding.
It is extremely foolish for the FG to be subsidizing religious activity at a time when they can't subsidize economic activity.

Did you comprehend what you read?

In as much as I do not support the FG subsidizing dollars for any pilgrims (Christians and Muslims), this particular one was done on equal footing.

It s hypocritical for you to see nothing wrong in subsidizing for Christian pilgrims and suddenly realize it's not good now because of the time. When it was done for Christians, was Nigeria swimming in dollars? Was Nigeria any better than now?

I hope this is a good lesson for PMB and his team to learn that Government has no business with religion. Let every Christian/Muslim wishing to go on pilgrimage look for their own dollars/Pounds/Euros and whatever. It's their personal issue not state's.
I so much appreciate this comment. Factual and articulated.

I want to ask, when international student were crying due to hike in exchange rate the dullard President said any one who can not cope should withdraw from study and go back to Nigeria. Image people that went our to do research, so as to come back to home country to impact same knowledge acquired to the citizens, the president speak shoot and now he subsidies dollar for people to go and visit sherian or idol stone caves by arab man, claiming to go and stone devil in another foreign land when his country is full of devils children.

The government needs to put a stop to this. Nigeria is a secular state, and must remain so in policies and programmes. That said, Christian pilgrims to Israel enjoyed the same subsidised exchange rate, why the hullabaloo over such measure being extended to Muslims really beats me.

It was given to Moslem's first for your info. 160 to Moslems and 165 later to christians

That is not the issue here. The issue is the should stop funding pilgrimage to any place.

Maybe the FG are not getting the major point which most Nigerians are clamouring for. It's not about approving it for Muslims or Christians. It's about putting hands off sponsoring any religious programme from Government. This measure is unproductive, it would not even yield 1 kobo as revenue. It's a total and blatant waste.

It's not about Christian or Muslim .

If Christians got similar treatment, I say we let it go.

After this, the process needs review because with the dollar floated, the country takes heavy losses.

The Government should remember that when the Christians got their own, the Naira was not floated. So it is a totally different case.

Both muslims and xtians benefited at N160/$1 FG concessionary rate last year, but the truth is that this shouldn't be our priority at this time. (https://www.proshareng.com/news/Forex/FG-Approves-Exchange-rate-Proshare/28256)

Yea. Many people seem to be missing the point. The subsidy is a total economic waste. It's not a question of what is good for the goose

Why the noise now that he ordered N197/$1 for Muslim Pilgrims?!

No matter how you dice it, you're not only an hypocrite but also an irredeemable bigot.

Anyone who has any reason to support the govt for subsidizing Christian pilgrims in October 2015 and March 2016 claiming that forex was not as scarce as now, and now critizes the govt for doing same to the Muslims now, is the No. 1 HYPOCRITE in Nigeria.

Why are some Christians reasoning like this, why would they say Muslims are not tolerant when they always become militant and aggressive when it comes to matters concerning Muslims? It is easy for a pastor to be a Vice President in Nigeria and very difficult for Professor Oloyede to head a government agency simply because he is a devout Muslim? What people don't know is the more you oppose Muslims, the more the faith becomes stronger

It is a total waste of scarce resource which can benefit other areas needing the funding

After Biafra/biacunts and some bigoted west/north xtians criticised PMB and later realised it was also subsidised for xtians even cheaper @ N160, they are changing the tune that it is not good for our economy now. Was our economy okay then? Did a single Muslim criticise it then? Did a single xtian say anything against it or told us how bad it was for our economy?
Men! Hatred in Nigeria is more of religion, ethnicity is secondary. God help us.

They don't seem to be any specific policy on how nigerian foreign exchange is transacted. It says something different in paper, but in practice it is a black market scenario where decisions are taken spontaneously at the expense of vulnerable customers.

I concur with you my friend. I'm a christian but this days i wonder what got into my fellow Xtian brothers head. Enmity will not take us anywhere. Less advocate and disseminate peace and love. With love one day we will unite and follow the true path.
