According to President Muhammadu Buhari special adviser on media Garba Shehu, the hugely debated exchange rate of N197 to a dollar for the Hajj was approved about three months ago.

The exchange rate of N197:00 to a Dollar was approved by the President about three months ago,.

much earlier than the the new FOREX regime came into being.

The Chairman of the Hajj Commission has confirmed that it is non-discriminatory.

It was approved for Christian and Muslim pilgrimages for this year. The CBN has offered an explanation.

FFK asked if Christians are second class citizens,l? With the dollar being sold at 197 for Muslims is it not true?

Did you comprehend what you read?

In as much as I do not support the FG subsidizing dollars for any pilgrims (Christians and Muslims), this particular one was done on equal footing.

It s hypocritical for you to see nothing wrong in subsidizing for Christian pilgrims and suddenly realize it's not good now because of the time. When it was done for Christians, was Nigeria swimming in dollars? Was Nigeria any better than now?

I hope this is a good lesson for PMB and his team to learn that Government has no business with religion. Let every Christian/Muslim wishing to go on pilgrimage look for their own dollars/Pounds/Euros and whatever. It's their personal issue not state's.

Oh yeah,
Pilgrimage to Mecca and Jerusalem is more important to us than food in our plates and roofs over our heads
What is happening to us right now is best described with this quote.

'Elections are won by men and women chiefly because most people vote against somebody rather than for somebody"-Franklin P. Adams

The government needs to put a stop to this. Nigeria is a secular state, and must remain so in policies and programmes. That said, Christian pilgrims to Israel enjoyed the same subsidised exchange rate, why the hullabaloo over such measure being extended to Muslims really beats me.

Well after this pilgrimage, since it was already approved, FG should stop sponsoring these trips with scarce forex.

This isn't about whether it was approved for christains as well, it is about not making any economic sense, either to muslims or christians. and before you go on your usual rants i'm a muslim and an intending pilgrim in the nearest future.

You see, this's the problem with our so called youths...instead of you guys to discuss about the propriety of this action on the economic front, you're busy defending your religion.
