The FG just falling hand on this one. Why not fully separate state and religion? With this state of the economy, anyone who wants to embark on luxuries and other non-state functions should source for dollar 'emselves; so also should those trying to embark on religious duties.

I wonder if they will also cone out to lend any assistance to non-orthodox (christian/muslim) religions. Will the FG provide dollars for Sàñgó worshippers that wish to travel to Brazil to find out the extent of spread of the Yorùbá traditional religion from its epicenter in the south west?

Wetin be my own sef? Shebi the FG didn't listen to my opposition to subsidize for Jerusalem pilgrims few months ago, so how dem go take listen to me this time?

If you are going to US you ask for American currency, if you are going to Great Britain you ask for the British currency and if you are going to Saudi Arabia you ask for Saudi Arabian currency.

Nigerians and their ideology, oya defend yaself.

Now get it clearly. The US DOLLAR is a currency that is acceptable all over the world at the BDC. Currencies like pounds and some few other ones are also equally acceptable. Currencies like Naira, Yen, Sefa, Ruppees, etc are not generally accepted all over the world. Of these globally acceptable currencies, the USD is the one officially approved by Nigeria govt. If, for instance, u are travelling to Japan for an official assignment, the govt wouldn't pay u in Japanese Yen or Pounds if is Britain, even though the pounds is globally acceptable. What u will get is the USD. is it clear to u now?

Considering the economic crisis in Nigeria, it is not fit for purpose to keep paying people in USD when the country they are visiting have its own local currency.
This move adds more pressure to the USD circulation in Nigeria, it will surprise you to know that 90 percent of those going for Hajj will sell back their USD to black market to make more profit but

If you pay them in Saudi currency, since they are destined for Saudi. Let them spend it there and cos black marketers are not interested in buying.
Hope you see the economic advantage.

Was this your view when it was done for Christian pilgrims?

If not, you're a typical example of HYPOCRITE.

I guess you have problem understanding simple comprehension. Read my previous post and see the part where I condemned subsidization of pilgrimage either for Christians or Muslims. It's nothing but mere waste of fund and I am sure God may not be pleased with it. There's nowhere in the Bible where pilgrimage is commanded while Quran specifically prescribes it for those who have the financial capability.

Lol...Mr Tour, it's obvious you have not left the shores of Nigeria before. The US dollar is accepted all over the world and can be changed in any country, the only other currencies that have similar popularity and acceptability is British pounds and euros. You can't buy Saudi Arabian currency in Nigeria and you can't buy Nigerian naira outside of Nigeria but you can change your dollars to Nigerian naira in Nigeria and to Saudi Arabian currency in Saudi.
Re: FG Defends N197 To Dollar Exchange Rate For Hajj (photo) by MrTour: 4:23pm On Aug 06, 2016
Lol. Contrary to your opinion MrTour is my identity.
The CBN holds reserve for any major productive country in the world, the big question is does it hold enough to cater for social events, probably it doesn't but it should.

Nigeria is funding the Hajj event from its USD reserves, this is wrong for an ailing economy. The greedy speculators benefit from these loopholes through a buy back from individuals.

The point is this, the HAjj is for Saudi Arabia and it will cost the government less to pay the individuals involved in Saudi Riyal compared to paying them in USD. Nigeria has trade deals with Saudi Arabia and can also get special arrangements for such funding from Saudi Arabia.

Nigerians don't seem to understand the economics applied to an ailing economy is different for a progressive economy.

Foolish country men. I don't see Africa especially Nigeria growing much economically because religion has eaten deep into our youths to the point nothing is discussed constructively or intellectually. We say we are in a recession yet we make economic blunders like this. I give up already.

Did you comprehend what you read?

In as much as I do not support the FG subsidizing dollars for any pilgrims (Christians and Muslims), this particular one was done on equal footing.

It s hypocritical for you to see nothing wrong in subsidizing for Christian pilgrims and suddenly realize it's not good now because of the time. When it was done for Christians, was Nigeria swimming in dollars? Was Nigeria any better than now?

I hope this is a good lesson for PMB and his team to learn that Government has no business with religion. Let every Christian/Muslim wishing to go on pilgrimage look for their own dollars/Pounds/Euros and whatever. It's their personal issue not state's.

Muslim pilgrimage usually comes before Christian pilgrimage every year. What was done for Christians in Nov/Dec last year more or less balanced the one done for Muslims earlier in the year. This is already a 'new' year, and the country is facing very hard times. The government should have scrapped it.

Now, look at this part of the post:
It was approved for Christian and Muslim pilgrimages for this year. The CBN has offered an explanation.

It means a similar amount might still be spent by the end of this year for Christian pilgrimage in order to balance this present one, not minding that the country's economy is already in recession.
Does it make any sense?

grin And the funny thing is that some on the pilgrimage train will be owed several months of unpaid salaries. Now government is subsidizing their travel to pray for things to get better, and God in heaven will be like...."I've heard your cries and prayers to me but go back and tell your leaders to improve your lives from the money you spend to get here". Mbok, is this not spiritual round tripping.

Nigerians and their Religious belief is a killer itself.
God will be wondering what kind of brain dead people are these. God has given you the brain and finance to move mountains yet the government wants to sponsor a trip to Saudi Arabia to go and meet God hmmm.
If you like gather all Nigerians and go to Hajj, the economic woes will only get worse.

Majority of those Muslims are sponsored by someone or govt but how many of the xtians are sponsored by someone or govt. The xtians are only interested in going so they can add the title JP to their CV. important national issues that needs to be discussed are swept behind the carpet while we keep enriching other countries at the detriment of the Nation. What a country!

Even if Jesus (alyhissalam) descends now, he wouldn't recognize anything in this religion they ascribe to him, not even that dude they all believe to be him!!!

Wait, Christians are really gullible ooo! If the devil appears to them in the image of that dude, they would instantly believe it's 'the Lord'!
