Shout outs the bosses in here. una know una self.

This is just a short story on my experience over the few years i have started farming. Will be talking about the things i didn't do right so that people can learn from my past mistakes.

>>> My first voyage into farming was a DISASTER.
I Planted watermelon on an approximately 2 plots of land and believe you me i didn't get a ball of watermelon from that farm.
MISTAKE(S) MADE: Poor monitoring of the plants and this is because i was very far from the farm and i didn't have any farm worker to help. This prevented me from spraying insecticides and fungicides regularly.
NOTE: Also spray your watermelon or any vegetable you plant weekly and make sure you don't skip any week.

Will continue tomorrow in sha Allah (God willing). i get serious headache. catch ya lera

CONTINUATION...

>>>My First Cucumber Story.
After the watermelon flop, i planted cucumber and again it didn't do well.
WHY: That's the question you were about to ask i guess. They didn't do well because the land is compacted and i didn't bother to till before planted due to my inexperience. They all germinated but they were very short, around just a feet tall and they didn't produce fruit, just bright, beautiful yellow flowers.
LESSON: Make sure you thoroughly till the soil. The best bet is to plough but if you can't, make sure you make beds for your vegetables.

Then the rain comes again and it was time to plant, tried cucumber on a quarter plot of land and it was a success.

>>> Second Cucumber experience.
After the previous success i set out to cultivate it on a bigger land. Met with some people and i rented a land, did the clearing, packing, burning(the best option at that time) and ridge making. BUT, by the time the ridges were made, the planting time was almost over but due to the zeal and the money spent i decided to go ahead with the planting, hoping the weather will be favourable. They were growing fine but suddenly the rain stopped, and you know the rest. The harvest was not up 10%of the expected harvest and some was even bitter. Very bitter.
LESSON: You can't put your 100% trust in the weather though there are some save periods.

To be continued...

>>>ANOTHER LESSON.
It was march and it's time for watermelon, the farm is weedy but i thought i can still manage herbicide to save cost. Got herbicide(quick action, major component: paraquat), i sprayed and i planted as soon as possible cos I was running out of time. They were growing fine at the beginning, but the rain increased and the weed started coming back to life. Also, it was may and it was mango's season, i had a old mango tree close to my farm and this fruitflies invaded my farm. Hmmm, this small flies can destroy acres of watermelon farm without you harvesting just 1 ball from it. I started making calls and fortunately for me i was able to find a solution even though i lost a lot of young watermelons to them, A LOT.
LESSON LEARNT: Make sure you do you land preparation thoroughly. Hopefully i will share the little i know about land preparation later.
...watch out for fruit flies, especially when you have a fruit tree close by and they are producing at that time. though you must be watchful of these little creatures every time. I FEAR THEM. Spray weekly or even 5 days interval and get a pheromone block (this is the solution to fruit fly)
To know if you have fruit fly infestation, you see your young watermelon fruit getting rotten, you will notice a tiny hole at the point of rot and if you break the fruit you will find maggot inside. If those are what you are seeing, that is fruit fly in action, they lay eggs inside young fruits, those egg develop to maggot and the maggots feed on your small watermelon.

I had similar experience with cucumber. They grew well and I harvested over 120 before a disease came and wipe them out. My mistake was that I didn't control leaf beetles when they started flowering. I was too merciful on the bees and other polinators. So the beetles spread the disease thruout the cukes. Another mistake was intercroping them with sweet potatoes - nutrient stealers. Next time I'll do a better job. The most imp thing is to identify and find solutions for ur mistakes.

When you say how much, do you mean about the people or about the property, what i can tell you is the land is after dangote cement factory, the land is for agricultural purposes, the payment is for purchase for ownership nor lease, there is a stream close to the land that means the water table is high, and more importantly you will get your documents for your land, if i did not satisfy your question pls feel to reply here or call me on 08059414703
