The simple fact is that we need to build more refineries. Even back in 2012, when GEJ wanted to remove fuel subsidy and Nigerians said no, the current system...where we import most of our refined fuel needs....is no longer sustainable. In my opinion, until Nigeria builds at least four to five new refineries, we won't get out of this mess. So far, we have one new refinery under construction, and licences grated for dozens of mini-refieneries. Action needs to be expedited by this government on their construction. Nigeria cannot be a net importer anymore. It is not good for our economy, and for the common man. |

dre11:Take steps to protect them with what. Who will make the sacrifice, to offer all its resources when every sector is depressed, underfunded. What these people fail to realise is that an economy is integrated, the subsidy of one side leads to the starvation of the other. In a developed economy every sector must be compelled to operate at optimum efficiency. The petroleum sector is not more important than health or education or youth development or security or water supply or the environment. So the industry must learn to develop on its own. No to perpetual babysitting. |

These marketers NEVER run out of ideas to hike fuel price. I'm so happy Buhari removed subsidy cos that has been their main excuse for a long time Build a new refinery and stop importing petroleum products ![]() |

noxide:I wonder o. I think the marketers could form an independent company, and contribute money , so that said company could at least build two new refineries. (But they won't. Importation is sooooo much easier. ). |

HungerBAD:There is no conspiracy. They are just as lazy as the rest of us Nigerians, unwilling to work hard and make the necessary sacrifices for the society we desire; the architypical Nigerian mindset that our bills mvst be paid by someone else, or at somebody elses expense. |

HungerBAD:their leaking their plans to the press before taking action is to justify themselves against sentimental folks like you who are blinded with partisan politics which you likely dont directly benefit from How can one be sourcing forex at 400 to a dollar and you expect him to keep selling products at when he got forex at 287 to a dollar, thats almost double the amount. Hungerbad maybe your unflinching support of the President may suggest you are related to him or one of his adhoc staffs, please tell him that hunger is ravaging the land, everything is on a high side |

ancientbanana:1.The reason why the government is making it difficult to get dollars is to protect the naira from reaching N200000 to $1. 2.Christian pilgrims too got dollars at subsidized rates. Approved by PMB himself. What you should be complaining about is that govt should stop sponsoring pilgrims , Christian or Muslims. Every man should pay for his religious obligations. 3.CBN or no CBN, the basic problem is that Nigeria cannot produce enough fuel for our domestic needs. We import far more refined fuel than we produce at home. And with the scarcity of dollars to buffer our currency, it becomes more difficult to import....we need more naira to buy dollars. Therefore, prices go up. Nigeria needs to build more refieneries. Put pressure on your legislator and on Aso Rock. |

onatisi:I read your ''prophecies'' 1.Are you saying that government should bring back fuel subsidy? Really? 2.It takes time to build refineries. And when your hero GEJ was in charge, he did nothing about that. In 2010....he supposedly signed a contract to build three new refineries. Which never happened. 3.Anyway., the issue here is that we are not producing enough domestically, and we need to expedite action on the 61 new mini refineries...as well as build three new ones. It is that simple. 4.Fuel price increase will continue to happen because we import most of our needs. Not because of ''policies'' . And it does take time to build and repair the mess that is Nigeria's fuel industry.....so expect more increases. The oil price fall has revealed the cracks that should have been dealt with (and in fairness to GEJ and PDP...WOULD have been dealt with with the removal of subsidy in 2012...which most Nigerians opposed, because people did not see the long term benefits). |

Emefiere is not getting this. They should reverse this dollar float. Its not working. Buhari never wants it in the first place. But was convinced by IMF, CBN, and Bank chiefs. The best subsidy now is to give Oil marketer's dollar at the rate of 197. They should be top priority until we start refining. This is actually BAD CBN policies. US is restricting the dollars from international market to strengthen their economy. Every country is feeling it. Even China. Yuan has fallen from 6.4 to a dollar last year to 6.7 now. Smart countries has moved to Yuan. What is CBN still doing with our Yuan agreement? Emefiere seems to be too incompetent. Sanusi was better and smarter. Thats was why it looked as if GEJ was better. Moreover, someone should talk to these NDA they are crippling our dollar income. |
| Re: Dollar Scarcity: Petrol Price Hike Looms, Marketers Say by Nobody: 7:17am On Aug 09, 2016 |
PoorUgly:The problem is not the dollar float....but the fact that we are importing most of our fuel needs! That is the issue at hand. And anyway, while I opposed the dollar float myself....it was eventually going to happen because we are no longer earning enough dollars to buffer the naira. |

BoneTackle:don't mind me my brother. The day my anger started is the day my hubby told me that we can no longer afford to use 2 cars, that it's no longer affordable, I vex ehn, but I know he's right, absolutely right. That day seems to be the beginning of my wailing. Imagine, I work, he works and all of a sudden, we can no longer afford what we could easily afford before. Isn't that enough to make one angry. And we have children that we have already trained with comfortability, how do we now explain to them that mummy will no longer come and be picking them in school with car again. Abeg, no blame me jare, I'm still for families. |

At $140/ barrel of oil we bought fuel N97 and now at $40/ barrel of oil we are buying fuel at N145. By simple proportion we are supposed to buy fuel at N26. But they are still contemplating a hike. Honestly the hardship this government is putting us into is untoward. And all I can see is a people revolting against the operation in the land |

greatgod2012:My sister it's an appalling situation. Their are millions of Nigerians who have adopted this 'adjustment methodology' that you and hubby have chosen, and rightly so. Imagine under the previous administration, you could power your generator from 7pm till 5am the following morning, but nowadays if you power your gen reach 11pm you even try be dat . This is just one of the many parameters to gauge economic hardship Nigerians are faced with under the ethnoreligious bigoted Under this incompetent and undemocratic presidiot, cost of living has skyrocketed whereas standard of living has dropped. Life has becoming almost unbearable for most Nigerians. There is untold hardship, hunger and suffering in the land, yet some god-forsaken hate-filled zombies would come here and defend their god booharri on empty and hungry stomach. I no blame you joor, at least you have conscience and a functionaL brain and you know when not to be a zombie or sheepish follower, you have made an informed decision to be a wailer, just like many others. You are welcome once more. Erm... I must say I miss the fam section thou, haven't being there for a loong while.... lol. Work beckons. Good AM! ![]() |

All hail avengers. I am sure their supporters are enjoying this and not affected. People openly say they will destroy our main source of income...we encourage them, they destroy it, we applaud them, then we start shouting when the effect hits? Only when we are united towards the common good of this nation can we move forward. |
