OP is very correct even though many might not like it. I studied Accounting myself, I can authoritively tell you that You are not an accountant with just a degree . You are just an account clerk. Infact Accounting is a course that even with M.Sc you are not an Accountant except you want to go into lecturing. If you are not Chartered, you are not an accountant. Even as a chartered accountant, I do not have my dream job. Thats how you see a Business admin graduate calling himself a manager or administrator, for where? For the LAWYERS! nonsense! na when you near courts outside Lagos and Abuja u go sabi say hunger is real. I really pity those ones. Doctors still dey try shine small cos of the opportunity they have to work in many clinics. Enginners !hissss, more than 90% of the new graduates dey find bank and insurance work. They plenty for Lagos. |

An accountant can start his own business and manage it well , you don't necessarily have to work for someone before you become successful. I don't understand why you say they are overhyped when we have many successful people out there who studied the course you listed up there and made it through it. We have been hearing about taking good advantage of opportunity, you don't have to depend on what you study in school to make and if you make it through another means, it doesn't mean what you studied is a waste. |

Aside from the nobility, it important to find out if it's a good career path in terms of "u know nah" financial security. I'm not that religious but I take spiritual stuff's seriously and you know it controls the physical. So I might( not certain) listen to my daddy Pastor. |

NonFarmPayrol:hahahaha ![]() Engineering students are the most entitled. When they graduate , they be like "... its either chevron or nothing" until they start growing grey hairs at home. Even as a graduate now , I thank God I didnt even go for the popular courses , although it was a big deal to study them as at then . But I've seen the reality of the corporate world. Most if not all studied engineering/accounting related courses because of oil/multinational company employment opportunities. And now all the companies are filled up and looking at how to slash wages and lay off staffs. Going after your passion is the best. You don't have to deal with mental stress after work. You can even push for your own business along the line. |

Law is the most stupid overhyped course. As a Lawyer you will end up as "house rent agent" or you rather become nonsense activist that tell lies and make noise in order to have food on the table. If you intend to write JAMB choose your course/discipline wisely. You can go for any ENVIRONMENTAL courses, Computer Science, etc. Best wishes! ![]() |

They went for those courses cos society pushed them there and they thought they will be ready-made instanta without adding value.always grumbling instead of doing their job and improving themselves |

Not that the courses have been over-hyped, but the jobs available can't accommodate graduates produced year in year out from tertiary institutions. Though, an Electrical engineer can set-up roadside workshop to sustain. Like the Doctors can use a room as hospital which does happen in Nigeria. Likewise, the Lawyer can rent a small shop as his office for soliciting, or charge n bail. If the right oppoetunity has come, you can set up those hint i mentioned above for survival. Afterall, At-all At -all na him bad. But whatabout people who studied Zoology, Psychology, Geophysics, etc where will u place them. But all courses are relevant. May God Nigeria. ![]() ![]() |

Geesanni:. You don't know anything about Petroleum Engineering. It is a one-sided course. Apart from the oil and gas industry, u can never be employed in any where. forget about petroleum and face reality. Mechanical and Electrical/electronic engineers more employed than petroleum engineers because they can work in any industry |

every course has people who are unemployed, and there several firms paying meager amounts to there workers. Engineering is good, as well as the rest. the way i see it, the guy who posted this thread stayed for several years at home trying to get admitted to study any of the course above, and after several attempt, he changed to another course, and now he wants to discourage others not to study these courses. |

Asssmasher:Lol@op . A typical Nigeria youthman that still lives inna industrial age of the 19th and 20th Century and not the Computer of the 21st century. The following courses does not need a full time job. Law : There is a saying in the legal profession that "it's like a wine, the older to more expensive". No body wishes to trust a young lawyer with a deal worth millions or hundreds of thousands or highly contentious matters except the lawyer has proven his salt. And this he most do my continuously updating himself, being witty and a street lawyer.By street I mean the ability to develop thick skin against intimidation against senior lawyers and hazard that comes with the job, same for engineering and medicine. Engineering: A machine engineer finishes from school and cannot even work his own car or fix his plant nor install one. What a shame. I have a friend who is an engineer, as a young graduate he spent his holidays in his father's workshop fixing cars and learning the trade while the swagarlicious friends will make jest of him and tease him. Some friends/course discovered theirselves and decided to join him instead of going home during holidays. And during nysc he would use his spare time to go work free in a major car dealership and servicing company in Lagos. They immediately employed him after serving. A year later the India coy sent him to mistubushi coy in Japan to learn more. He came back stayed for a few months and decided to open his own services coy . Standard one. Today is fixes brand new Japanese cars and also works as consultant for some other coy. My point he realised there were no jobs and decided to create jobs using her educational experience which is what is obtainable in today's world. Gone are the days of go to school, get good grades , so you can get a good job. Those days are gone. Today it's go to school and develop yourself son you can create jobs. I rise. |

Laughable and annoying analysis. OP kindly tell us the course you studied /are studying. You have glaringly exhibited your ignorance on the 'over hyped' courses. Stop discouraging those whose purpose is to fulfil destiny in these chosen fields. It is not for any Tom Dick and Harry.Note. Better talk about how career choices could be made wisely, not the balderdash of one course is over hyped because it's no longer lucrative. So says who? We have so much induced into the system the consciousness of gratification before delivery, monetization before hardwork, so much so that the minds of the young ones are premised on the RESULT(Money) and no longer on the PROCESS(Hardwork) |

sade1994:law is a very good course but in Nigeria..oyo reason: Nigeria is a lawless country it was substituted with corruption......90% of cases with the police was bought /settled with money only less than 10% actually goes to court if not that ladies are lazy i would've advice you to attend the local court around you and examine the Lawers within the premises after just one visit you'll change your mind |
