The principal suspect in the murder of Oyo State House of Assembly lawmaker, Hon. Gideon Aremu, Ayobami Adedeji (23) yesterday declared that he was paid N40,000 for the assignment.

Speaking at the police headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan during police parade, he said the money was part of his own share of the money stolen from the deceased.

According to the suspect, he was a member of the four-man armed robbery gang that actually robbed and killed the decease.

He said that they had no knowledge of the status of the victim, adding that “as robbers, the intention was to rob of valuable property in his possession.”

The suspect added that the victim was killed because they thought he could identify them due to a torch flashed on them during the operation.

Other suspects arrested were Adeniran Oladapo (31), criminal receiver; Kareem Isiaka (43), criminal receiver; and Sodiq Adedeji (20), criminal receiver.

Meanwhile, Oyo State Police Command has declared three people wanted over their alleged roles in the murder of member of the state House of Assembly.

The state commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade while briefing newsmen in Ibadan, gave the names of the fleeing suspects as Abbey, Kola Mission and Yusuf Ikire.

While calling on members of the public with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the criminals, the police boss assured that no criminal would commit crime of the magnitude in the state and get away with it.

The criminals were said to have participated in the murder of the lawmaker representing Oorelope constituency in the state House of Assembly who was killed in front of his house.

The out-going police commissioner disclosed that four members of the gang had been arrested in connection with the murder.

He said following intensive intelligence coupled with diligent and painstaking investigation carried out by well trained detectives assigned to unravel those behind the killing, the four suspects were arrested.

He added that the breakthrough was made possible by the combined efforts of the Special Response Team of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim M. Idris and crack detectives from the state command.

The out-going police boss disclosed that the notorious suspects, some of whom were criminal receivers of the victim’s mobile phone were picked up in their hideouts at Beere area in the state capital between 9th and 14th July, 2016.

He said that the initial arrest of Adevictim’s phone and his confessional statement led to the arrest of other suspects.

According to him, the arrest of the suspects and their subsequent confession laid insinuations that the killing was politically motivated to rest.

The economic situation is making beasts of men/women. It's pathetic that crime rate has become so alarming with high rates of stealing, kidnapping, armed robberies, human trafficking and even some parents using their wards as collaterals for foodstuffs.

I pray the masses find strength to withstand this economic storm that Nigerians are facing.

the following morning of that incident, the NPF said that the killer took no kobo from the victim after killing him and all the money on him was still intact and that they only took away his mobile phone. also, it bwas alleged that the victim was coming from a meeting.
