sapiosexual1: Dont be quick to judge, a lot of women dont lactate after delivery. Each woman's body respond differently post partumly. 10 Likes |

JustHere2Observ:Like seriously my sister, after 9weeks? The only reason she wouldn't be lactating at 9weeks post partum is if the baby was carried by a surrogate mum. But even at that, putting lips to nips intermittently for 2-3days would trigger the milk-let-down reflex. 2 Likes |

sapiosexual1: Nope, if a woman does not lactate immediately after birthing, formula is started so the baby does not starve. I know women who didn't lactate for 2 weeks, so baby had to be started on formula immediately, she was just unlucky her baby reacted to whatever she gave him. 7 Likes 1 Share |

shhladyj: What if she started the formula before she was discharged and just kept feeding the baby, or she supplemented his feeding because she has to return to work and is not expressing well, or her body is not producing enough prolactin. Anything could have happened. 6 Likes |

JustHere2Observ:Ofcus formula is started if a mom can't breastfeed immediately after birth esp for those who underwent CS, have retracted nip.ple.s, were separated from the baby for some time after delivery. There could also be some rare instances where milk isn't produced in sufficient quantity for a while, obviously due to ductal problem. Buh 9weeks!! My sister, this woman in question just wanted to feel like a hipster mom and she got served with a life lesson. 1 Like |

JustHere2Observ:If she started formula before discharge, she has to stop formula once she is able to breastfeed. If the milk isn't coming down well, she has to be taught proper breastfeeding position otherwise, she should use a breast pump. As to the other points.........the main issue here isn't if she should use formula or not, everyone can justifiably give reasons why they wouldn't breastfeed (afterall na she get her boobs na), buh every mother should understand that it's better she strives to provide exclusive breastfeeding for her child. It does the child a whole lot of good. I can't begin to list the advantages and protective effects of breastmilk over formula feed, buh........ it's way preferable whenever possible. Milk allergy? Is surprising that both a dermatologist and a pediatrician did not recognize this relatively common infantile skin condition. Infantile seborrheic dermatitis. Oyibos call it cradle cap although it affects more than the scalp. Doctors are not exactly sure what causes it but we know the skin heals over several weeks or months and no one will ever know the child had it. The discoloration likely worsened because a steroid cream or ointment was used to treat the rash 1 Like |

sapiosexual1:Mr man relax! Do you have a baby? Do you think it's easy to do ebf? Most women want to but can't for various reasons! 1-inadequte milk flow, the milk is not enough to solely satisfy a baby. Would you rather your baby starve or introduce formula? 2- resuming work, with the epileptic power supply how do you suggest a woman stores breast milk when she goes back to work? 3- personal reasons some women just don't want to do ebf because of fear of breast sag! (Pressure from the husband) Formula is milk and can be introduced as early as day one of birth! Most babies react to lactose( lactose intolerance) it could be a change of milk to one without lactose may have been the solution! Rather than condemning the milk out rightly. The way some food don't sit well with us so its the same for babies. Don't be so quick to judge or condemning someone if you haven't been in their shoes. 11 Likes 1 Share |

Am a father.. When wifey got pregnant, i said wifey must do exclusive breast feeding when our baby comes... He did come but things aren't always picture perfect. Breast milk wasn't sufficient. Baby wanted to feed almost every hour. Nipls got sore. Power issues didn't encourage preservation of expressed breast milk.. Wifey slept less than 3 hours (cummulative) daily and was almost breaking down. Nobody tell me.. I use my leg waka go buy baby food ..... and our boy is stronger than a roman soldier.....Thank God 20 Likes 1 Share |

Milk formula ain't that bad especially for working mums. Exclusive breast feeding work in a situation where you can stay with your baby 24/7 for six months. Boys are even worst in sucking excessively. Some people can only tolerate certain level of milk in there system and maybe in this case there is soya in the formula. May God continue to protect us. 2 Likes |

Fame333: I just want to touch on the whole *boys suck excessively thing* Personally I think its a myth in an attempt to maybe sexualize breastfeeding? I don't know. Maybe because boys grow into men to like boobs for sexual purposes? I'm trying to understand. My own personal experience, I have a boy and a girl. My girl breastfed way more often and for a longer duration that my boy. I always roll my eyes when I hear or read the whole *boys breastfeed more* thingy. 5 Likes |

sapiosexual1: I copied and pasted this from my reply on a similar thread. Read below. "Some women really can't produce breast milk. I know someone who is a lactation consultant in the US. Her job is to coach new moms on how to successfully breastfeed. Contrary to what people think, it doesn't come naturally. Yes it's natural, but it takes practice for both the mother and baby to get it right, in addition to the Tip pain no one warns you about. So lactation consultants are really helpful. However this particular L.C. had a baby and did not have any milk supply to breastfeed. She drank all sorts of herbs, nothing helped. She was heartbroken. She had to resort to formula. Bottom-line, not everyone that wants to breastfeed is able to. Formula is not poison. It was made specifically for babies' needs. After all when all is said and done and we grow into adults no one knows or cares the difference between who was a formula fed or a breastfed infant. It's certainly never been on any form I've filled nor an interview question. We all know that breast is best, but formula comes in at a close second. I'd rather have a formula fed baby than a starved baby. This is coming from someone who breastfed for way over one year." 6 Likes 1 Share |

sapiosexual1: Also, if milk isn't produced in sufficient quantities immediately or soon after birth, it's less likely to be produced as time goes on. It *dries up* so to speak if the mom is not nursing frequently and adequately. 9 weeks is a long time. It can happen, but with serious intervention and it also depends on why the mother didn't lactate initially. Also, breast is best, but formula is not poison. The only risk to formula in developing countries is availability of clean water. Some babies are also lactose intolerant or may have other digestive issues that keeps them from thriving on breastmilk. They need specialized formula to survive.not to mention some families cant survive one one income so the mom has to return to work after limited maternity leave. How many breaks can she get at work to pump? Where would she pump? Office toilet? Our society is not sympathetic to nursing moms. Some (developed) countries give as much as one year maternity leave with 50-75% pay after 6 months. Some offices have lounges where mothers can pump in privacy. Some offices have crèches attached to them so that the babies can be with a nanny during work hours while she takes breaks to breastfeed. a woman doesn't breastfeed or pump for 8 hours in the office, her supply may dry up. I'm passionate about breastfeeding but I'm more passionate about babies that are fed- either way 9 Likes |

sapiosexual1: You are so ignorant. You really should shut ur mouth on topics u know nothing about. Not all women are able to breast feed from birth. In case u also dont know, not all women are able to concieve or carry a child to term. And it is due to no fault of theirs. 9 Likes |
