The priority of the F.G . should be to take out both of these so called Leaders.Cut of the heads of both these monsters as a priority and the body will wither and decay.
At some point Lt.Gen.T..Y Buratai must realize for this war to end the entire Shuts council must be Eliminated not Captured killed. This is not a video game. This is real life.

nemesis2u:
The SA-7a and SA-7b thermal battery unit is a so-called thermally activated chemical battery, even though molten-salt battery would be a more accurate term . Like a conventional battery, it consists of an electrolyte and two electrodes. Unlike a conventional battery, however, the electrolyte is in solid state at room temperature and the battery is inert until the electrolyte is melted by a pyrotechnic device situated between the electrodes . These batteries provides for high reliability and long storage.

The thermal battery is activated by turning the externally mounted friction switch. Upon activation, the battery generates heat as a byproduct of the chemical reaction, leading to temperatures of more than 200°C at the surface . It provides the IR homing device with current until its detectors have acquired the thermal radiation of the aircraft. From that point on, the internal power source of the missile takes over the supplying of power. Since the external power source functions about 40 seconds.

The factory made SA-7 batteries lasts only 40 seconds once the missile system is switched on just long enough to lock on a target and fire a missile. if the missile is not launched then you will have to change it and these are hard to come by for terrorists.

what the terrorist did was simply measure the output current of a activated thermal battery through out its 40 seconds operational life , and take down the readings. Now he looked for conventional battery sources whose output matched closely with the readings.

Most plausible source is Lithium ion batteries, these are available everywhere like in laptops, high end torches etc and are also rechargeable.
Now he took an old missile thermal battery and extracted the coupling connector.
Then he joined the Lithium ion batteries to the coupling connector so that the whole assembly will fit in to the thermal battery receptacle of the missile launcher. he now packages all these into a U shaped plastic tube for integrity and also adds bare minimum electronics needed for recharging the Lithium ion batteries without removing them (basically copied the recharging scheme implemented in a rechargeable torch).

voila !!!!!
we have a terrorist designed battery for SA-7a and SA-7b only.

however , i know there will be instances where this replica will fail, sometimes it will work but more often it will fail.
the reasons are best not debated in a open forum.
Tnks proff...... grin

Boko Haram Leaders In Leadership Tussle

Although Boko Haram started as a Nigerian-based terror group, the group soon became powerful enough to extend its nefarious activities outside Nigeria. Having developed into a Jihadist group in 2009, it became to carry out largely local attacks, confining its attacks to Northern Nigeria.

The extra-judicial killing of its founding leader, Mohammed Yusuf led to the emergence of Abubakar Shekau as the leader of the sect. For many, the death of Yusuf was seen as a death knell to the organization but curiously the organization grew stronger.

Abubakar Shekau quickly established himself as ruthless but organized and from 2010, he created a mammoth organization which nearly brought the Nigerian government to its knees.

In 2015, the sect controlled a large swathe of territory mostly in North Eastern Nigeria and even formed a ‘Caliphate’. In 2011 alone, there were 115 attacks for which the group claimed responsibility but the height of the sect’s prominence was between 2013-2015.

In 2014, 276 students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School, Chibok and remain missing till this day. The more low profile kidnapping of over 300 people in Damasak largely went unnoticed by the government and most citizens.

There appeared to be no way to bring the activities of the organization to a halt. To be sure, the inadequacies of the Nigerian government exacerbated the problem.

It was Nigeria’s porous borders which enabled Boko Haram to quickly becoming a regional menace as they became more daring in attacks on Chad and even Cameroon. However, in 2016, the sect has been largely pushed back, with the Nigerian Army reclaiming most of the territory the group once controlled.

The attacks on soft targets in Northern states have also been brought to a halt as the group seemed to be in its dying embers. Rumors as to the death of Shekau remained rife, as he hadn’t released any audio or video messages in the past year.

Losing relevance in its homefront of Northern Nigeria and being soundly repelled elsewhere by a Multiregional joint task force, Boko Haram chose to become an affiliate of the Islamic State. The Islamic State (IS), is without doubt the deadliest terror group in the world and the alliance had security experts worried.

If there were any fears of Boko Haram’s resurgence, it has been overshadowed by a messy and public leadership tussle within the sect. The Islamic State announced Musab Al-Barnawi as the new governor of the Western region as reports claimed that Shekau had fallen out of favor with the higher-ups.

Musab reinforced these reports by criticizing Shekau in a video message where he outlined what his priorities as Governor would be. Shekau has now hit back at Al-Barnawi, insisting he remains the head of the sect and going on to call al-Barnawi ‘unqualified to lead’.

There is a lot of hope that the confusion in their ranks might mark the much-awaited end to the sect in Nigeria.

Before you go off half-cocked...

Read the statement again.

"Fighting and winning" is not the same as "fighting"

You do comprehend the function of the conjunction "and", don't youhuh

My key points remain valid

"Uninformed civilians"huh....This is the "moronic" mind sets of most of the intellectually challenged class of military numbskulls in africa.

The military is subservient to those "uninformed civilians". That's why in reasonable countries civilians are defence ministers and secretaries of defense.

Adminisher:
There is no army that does not fight in multiple fronts. It is uninformed civilian thinking that does not understand this. Every army tights on multiple fronts. LICs are even more likely to be multiple front wars. Peru, Colombia, Mexico, India, Saudi Arabia, US, UK, Russia. Every one of them is fighting on multiple fronts

DHQ - 'Shekau' Video Threat Mere Rhetorics

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ ) has dismissed the latest threat by Boko Haram's shadowy leader, Abubakar Shekau, in a new video in which he vowed to fight and take on both the Nigerian government and global coalition against terror.

Shekau in the video also shrugged off an apparent split in the hardline jihadist group, which was reported by THISDAY on Monday.

The Director of Defence Information (DDI ), Brig-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, in response to THISDAY inquiries on Monday, expressed doubt about the authenticity of the video, suggesting that it could have been made by anybody acting as Shekau.

"That's rhetoric and that doesn't bother us. Which Shekau and where did you see him. Remember anybody can replicate him. We know they are dying elements and will die alone soon, "Abubakar said.

Nigerian army issues statement over BH planned attacks

The Nigerian army headquarters (DHQ) has uncovered plans by the deadly Boko Haram sect to attack public places in Abuja, the south east state of Imo and security posts in the north of Nigeria.

The statement signed by one Colonel Sulaiman on behalf of the chief of army staff was distributed to all security and intelligence outfits. It’s titled “Plans By Boko Haram Terrorists Group To Attack Locations And Other Parts Of The Country.”

The army said: “Information at the disposal of the headquarters strongly points to plans by BHT terrorist group to attack various locations in different parts of the country. The targeted areas include but not limited to police stations, prison facilities, schools and market places. Details show that the terrorist group intends to target police stations/formations in Abuja, Kano, Kebbi and Sokoto states while prisons facilities will be attacked in Adamawa states.”

It further added: “The terrorists are reported to have deployed foot soldiers to carry out attacks on markets in Bauchi, Katsina and Imo states. Similarly, schools that are presently being reopened in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states are also at risk in the light of the wide ranging plot by the group to cause wide scale destruction.

“In view of the above, I am directed to inform you of this imminent threat and respectfully request that you take all necessary proactive measures to prevent BHTs from carrying out these heinous acts. Please treat as very urgent and acknowledge.”

General Buratai has on August 8 insisted that the Nigerian military had defeated Boko Haram terrorist sect.

This came as the leader of the sect Abubakar Shekau threatened to attack President Buhari, military chiefs and other senior officials in a new video recently released by the group.

Last week the Islamic State has announced Abu Musab al-Barnawi as the new leader for the terrorist Boko Haram group, however, Abubakar Shekau has treated the new appointment as a deception.

UK Armed Forces deployments tackle security threats in Africa

The UK is playing a substantial role in tackling security threats across Africa, with deployments in Nigeria and Somalia.

Around 30 British troops have recently arrived in Somalia to bolster a United Nations mission, while a 35 strong Royal Air Force (RAF) team have been training Nigerian personnel helping to fight Boko Haram.

An RAF Short Term Training Team have been advising the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in how to defend their airbases from threats such as that from extremist group Boko Haram, the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.

Personnel from No.5 Force Protection Wing and 51 Squadron RAF Regiment are also helping to boost the NAF’s skills in improvised explosive devices (IEDs), tracking insurgents, identifying weapons caches and navigation. They have also worked with the Nigerian Army on improving ground-to-air coordination.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said that, "We stand united with Nigerian efforts to defeat this brutal terrorist organisation. That is why we are increasing our support to their armed forces as they fight extremism. This mission is part of a step up in UK support announced by the Defence Secretary in December, paving the way for multiple deployments of up to 300 UK military personnel across 2016."

More than 5,000 members of the Nigerian Armed Forces have now benefited from UK training since April 2015, which has also included medical training, infantry skills, media operations, command and leadership, and support to Nigerian military training schools.
Somalia

Around 30 British troops have recently arrived in Somalia to bolster a United Nations mission helping to ensure security against the threat of extremism.

In a demonstration of the flexibility and global reach of the UK’s armed forces, the personnel will provide medical, logistical and engineering support as part of UN support to the African Mission in Somalia, which is working to build stability and help counter the threat posed by terrorist group Al-Shabaab.

Fallon said that, "We are determined to tackle terrorism wherever it appears and this deployment demonstrates our commitment to help stabilise Somalia."

The extra 30 troops brings the current number in-country to around 40, after an initial British team arrived in May to help strengthen infrastructure ready for this deployment. Up to 70 UK personnel will travel to Somalia in 2016 as part of the deployment.

Why Boko Haram still exist in Northeastern Nigeria- Chief of Army Staff

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, says there are still remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in parts of the North East due to the vast nature of the region.

The chief of army staff stated this in a lecture to participants of Executive Course 38 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), in Kuru, Plateau on Tuesday.

“They still exist in the region, especially Borno, as the area is diverse and some cannot be easily accessed.

“The land is so vast, the North East is very, very vast; you never appreciate it until you fly over that area or even drive around.

“Those remote areas are so diverse and thick with very difficult terrain.

“Now that it is the rainy season, it is very difficult to move heavy equipment, heavy tracking vehicles into some of those areas. The best time is the dry season’’, he said.

Buratai added that the decision by President Muhammadu Buhari to relocate the military control and command centre from Abuja to Maiduguri was highly profound and strategic in the counter insurgency operation.

“The movement of the military command and control centre to Maiduguri is one of the major responses of President Muhammadu Buhari toward the national security threat.’’

He also said the decision to relocate along with other service chiefs to the region to take charge and direct the operation was partly responsible for the current victory over the terrorists.

“We, service chiefs have not been in isolation. One has not been idle or kept himself out of the reality of the country as military officer, as a general, I kept track of what is going on.

“When I was appointed the chief of army, I said, this insurgency must stop, we must be responsive at all times, we should not wait and be reactive.

“I said our troops will never run away from these criminals – insurgents. We must hit them before they even come to us, not even to wait for them to attack and we repel, no.

“Immediately after my appointment, I moved to the North East.

“We – service chiefs must be part of the troops. If you want to respond properly, you must be with the troops, you must be aware of their day to day challenges.

“If you stay far away, there is no way you will understand.

“That is why I say I must be in the forefront, I must always be with the troops and that has really paid off seriously in re-aligning the morale of the troops.

“(That is why we are having) the direction, purpose, and indeed the eventual victory that we are having from day one to this moment’’, he said.

The army chief noted that collective effort was required in defeating the terrorists and acknowledged the roles being played by other arms of the security agencies, as well as the Civilian Joint Task Force.

He said insurgents that were fleeing to other parts of the country were being arrested daily with the help of members of the civilian joint task force.

Twenty soldiers comprising four officers and sixteen men of the Nigerian army have been arraigned before a court martial over charges of gun-running and murder.

While inaugurating the court martial at the military media center in Maiduguri, the commander in charge of 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier Victor Ezudwu,  warned the president of the court and its members against unnecessary adjournments, while seeing to it that justice is done.

Daily Trust reporter in Maiduguri reports that most of those involved are being charged for selling arms while some others are suspected of committing murder and human rights abuses.
