@Henry240

i have a question for u , can jf17 do hot refueling ?
Isn't that something all modern fighter jets ordinarily can do. I have no evidence that it can, however i'm certain it does.

JF-17 Avionics & Armaments

Introduction

JF-17 Thunder is an advanced, light-weight, all weather, day / night multi-role fighter aircraft; developed as a joint venture between Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), Kamra and Chengdu Aircraft Industry Corporation (CAC) of China. It possesses excellent air-to-air and air-to-surface combat capabilities. The state-of-the art avionics, optimally integrated sub-systems, computerized flight controls and capability to employ latest weapons provides decisive advantage to JF-17 over adversaries of same class. This, all weather, multi-role light combat fighter has remarkable high combat manoeuvre ability at medium and low altitude. With effective firepower, agility and combat survivability, the aircraft is likely to emerge as a potent platform for any air force.

Progress

The first JF-17 prototype aircraft (called FC-1) was rolled out in May 2003. It made its first flight in August 2003. Later on, two more prototype aircraft were added for basic structure, flight qualities, performance and engine flight testing while two prototype aircraft were involved in comprehensive avionics flight testing. The basic flight testing was completed in 2007 which also marked the arrival of JF-17 Thunder aircraft in Pakistan where it was formally presented to the nation as a Pakistan Day gift on 23 March 2007. A Test and Evaluation Flight was established at PAC Kamra which carried out the detailed operational evaluation of the aircraft as well as the training of ground and air crew. The JF-17 aircraft has been formally inducted in Pakistan Air Force by replacing A-5 aircraft of No 26 Squadron. The aircraft has already participated in Farnborough Airshow in UK and Zhuhai Airshow

Production

Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) holds the exclusive rights of 58% of JF-17 airframe co-production work. A comprehensive infrastructure comprising state of the art machines and required skilled human resource has very quickly been developed at the Complex.
The final assembly and flight testing of the aircraft was the first JF-17 co-production activity to start at PAC. The first PAC produced aircraft was handed over to Pakistan Air Force in November 2009. Since then, aircraft are being produced regularly to meet the required schedule. The co-production of sub assemblies and structural parts has also commenced and is sequentially attaining the sustained production status. Besides upgrading the production system, PAC has also upgraded its quality, technology and archive management systems to meet the production and management standards of a 3rd generation fighter aircraft.

Re: Technical Discussions On International Military Equipments Doctrines Tactics Etc by chinese8107:
The Thailand Ministry of Defence has confirmed that it is receiving new RA3 Artillery Locating and Fire Correction Radar, developed by China North Industries Corporation (officially abbreviated as Norinco).

The new RA3 anti-artillery radar by Norinco was spotted during official visit at Artillery Brigade Camp in Mueang Lopburi District.

The Norinco RA3 Radar is a Chinese active electronically scanned array counter-battery( AESA) radar designed to locate hostile artillery, rocket and ground-to-ground missile launchers immediately after firing, and to support friendly artillery by guiding counter-battery fire.

RA3 radar can also be applied in adjusting firing of friendly weapons or rockets. With a slight modification to software parameters, the radar can also be used to detect and track low flying targets such as light aircraft, helicopters and RPVs.

In addition, it is equipped with an optical infrared system and sound measuring systems that enable troops to discover an enemy’s stealth attack.

RA3 systems have been mounted on a Volvo FM 400 chassis.

A MBT FROM FROM A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY ARJUN MK1A

personally i think it is a very decent MBT , Indian army was cagey because of its weight which will force it to upgrade its logistic infrastructure to support its weight.
The Israeli test teams nicknamed it as the desert ferrari, even the Chinese state media praised it which left the Indian army red faced.

arjun development was taken up as a knee jerk reaction to counter pakistans acqusition of M1 Abrams tank, but later when this did not happen the army lost interest in it.

Arjun Mark1A has a total of 93 upgrades, including 13 major improvements.
The major upgrades are
missile-firing capability against long-range targets,
panoramic sight with night vision to engage targets effectively at night,
containerization of the ammunition,
enhanced main weapon penetration; additional ammunition types,
explosive reactive armour,
an advanced air-defence gun to engage helicopters;
a mine plough,
an advanced land navigation system
a warning system which can fire smoke grenades to confuse laser guidance.

Other upgrades are an enhanced Auxiliary power unit providing 8.5 KW (from 4.5 KW)
an improved gun barrel,
changes in the commander's panoramic sight with eye safe LRF,
night vision capability including for driver,
digital control harness,
new final drive, track and sprocket.
The Arjun Mk1a has an advanced hydro-pneumatic suspension system which provides very good comfort to the crew,
This tank is also fitted with auxiliary power unit which powers all systems when the main engine is turned off and It is also fitted with a mine plough.

Arjun's digital driver interface produced by TATA Power SED

The tank is fitted with infrared jammer, laser rangefinders and designators are used in navigation ( GPS/INS ), observation systems and sensors, real-time command and beyond-vision- range target engaging. Advanced Fire Control System (FCS) is linked to a millimetre band radar system, laser range-finder, crosswind sensor and IR and radiometer sensors on board.

The millimetre band radar system mounted on the turret is capable of operating as a Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS) and also has a Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) and radar jammer. Four all-bearing Laser warning receivers (LWR) for the new fire-control system enables the Arjun is capable of shooting down helicopters. Battle Management System has a panoramic sight with the commander's station equipped with eight periscopes for 360° vision. The tank is fitted with digital maps, improved cooling system to compensate for heat generated by the additional computer systems Mobile Camouflage System has been developed and integrated into the Arjun as part of the 'Development of Defensive Aids System' project to reduce the vehicle signature against all known sensors and smart munitions. But there are some problems that it have a lot of weak spots.

The Arjun has a lower ground pressure than the lighter T-72, due to its design. The Arjun features a hydro-pneumatic suspension. This coupled with the Arjun's stabilisation and fire control system allows the tank excellent first-hit probability against moving targets while on the move. Its ride comfort is highly praised.

ARMAMENT-Armed with a 120 mm rifled gun, the Arjun is believed to be capable of firing APFSDS ( kinetic energy penetrator ) rounds, HE , HEAT, High Explosive Squash Head ( HESH) rounds at the rate of 6-8 rounds per minute and the Israeli developed semi-active laser guided LAHAT missile(The LAHAT is a gun-launched missile and is designed to defeat both enemy armour and enemy combat helicopters). but now instead of LAHAT indian CLGM laser guided missile is to be used.

The computerised fire control system aboard Arjun has been jointly developed by DRDO with the Elbit , Israel. The Fire Control System is stabilised on two axes, and with an extremely high hit probability (design criteria call for a greater than 0.9 Pk) replaces an earlier analogue one, which had problems due to its inability to function under the harsh desert conditions. The commander's own stabilised panoramic sight allows him to engage targets and/or hand them over to the gunner. The Arjun has an auxiliary power unit to operate weapon systems in silent watch mode as well. The tank incorporates GPS -based navigation systems and sophisticated frequency hopping radios. The state-of-the-art Battlefield Management System, co- developed by DRDO and Ebit Israel, allows it to network with other fighting units. The Arjun has the capability to network with other tanks, thanks to its Battle Management System. In a search and engage operation, several Arjun tanks can monitor an opponent and his moves, and try to eliminate him in a chase or ambush.

C4ISR support for network centric warfare. This allows a wolfpack strategy in tank hunting roles.
Modular systems in ICS and BMS, so it can be upgraded and integrated with new systems at ease.
Rifled gun counts for better accuracy, along with sizeable ammunition stores.
Lower silhouette and more distributed ground pressure along with great suspension, which allows for better stability while firing on move. Greater mobility in muddy and sandy terrain and good speed in cross country.

The turret and glacis are protected with "Kanchan" ("gold"wink modular composite armour, which derived its name from Kanchan Bagh, Hyderabad, where the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) is located. Kanchan is made by sandwiching composite panels between Rolled Homogenous Armour (RHA). This helps in defeating APFDS and HEAT rounds. Trials conducted in 2000, showcased the ability of Kanchan armour to protect the tank, even when hit at point blank range by a T-72. It also demonstrated the capability to defeat HESH and APFSDS rounds, which included the Israeli APFSDS rounds.

BEIJING: India’s indigenous main battle tank Arjun was today praised by a top Chinese military official who said it is “very good” for Indian conditions as the PLA for the first time opened its facilities for Indian media to provide an insight into its massive modernisation.

In a sign of improved military relations, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) opened the doors of the key military institute — Academy of Armoured Forces Engineering — which trains over 6,000 cadets per year to the a team of visiting Indian journalists.

。Asked for his impressions of the Arjun battle tank developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, Senior Colonel Liu Degang, deputy commander of the Academy which keeps a close watch on the military hardware of India, said it is “very good” and suits Indian conditions.

The Arjun is a third generation main battle tank developed by DRDO for the Indian Army. It is powered by a single MTU multi-fuel diesel engine and can achieve a maximum speed of 67 km/h and a cross-country speed of 40 km/h.

why can’t india keep it a secret!

为什么印度就不能保密!

Sahil Roy (Mumbai, Maharashtra, Ind) replies to Pratik Ambani

India should keep secret the fact that 75% of Arjun Tank fleet is grounded due to technical reasons. The Chinese General was probably sarcastic in his comments. Everyone knows Arjun tanks are marred with lot of issues and if they really have to be deployed in action, then God save us.

印度应该保密的是75%的阿琼坦克因为技术原因而趴窝。

中国将军的此番言论可能是讽刺。众所周知,阿琼坦克要服役,还有一堆问题要解决。

All I can (and will) say is that, This is a well thought of and deliberate comment issued by PLA incline towards Indian defence establishment to continue with Arjun MBT development and “Not go ahead with developing a better an far dominant” battle tank. Since DRDO’s current MBT program has already been publicly denounced by the Indian Army due to its shortcomings. Can a plot not be seen here? The PLA, one that is heavily and in extream detail, managed by the Chinese G..t! This clearly is a strategy to make the Indian establishment actually believe that Arjun MBTs are good and can/will stand any chance agains Chinese Might. NO! The Indian Army should go ahead and procure better, futuristic MBTs. Just Ignore “WHATEVER” comes out of the PLA’s controlled mouthpieces.

Indian Army must be cautious on Arjun. It should try to improve its viability better and should not be taken away by Chinese laurels. If an enemy applauds you must be sure you are on a wrong path!. Beware and be cautious, improve Arjun the earliest possible.
