2014 National Conference Did Not Address Nigeria's Needs- Emeka Anyaoku by BeeBeeOoh(op): 12:11am On Aug 14, 2016
A former Secretary General of Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, yesterday, in Lagos, said the 2014 National Conference did not address Nigerians’ needs, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari administration needs to consider regionalizing the country into the current six geo-political zones for national and economic development.

“The 2014 National Conference is not the answer to the restructuring that Nigeria needs”, Anyaoku said.

He also urged youths to mobilize for the restructuring of the country.

“You should mobilize and channel some of your youthful enthusiasm into clamoring for a restructuring of the country’s governance architecture.”

Anyaoku, who spoke during the 2016 United Nations International Youth Day, held at University of Lagos, said: “The restructuring that I am advocating for proposes no threat to Nigeria’s unity.

“On the contrary, it is the continuation of the ongoing agitation in different parts of the country which is encouraged by the present governing structure that will most probably lead to the undoing of Nigeria’s unity.” He said that some elements in the recommendations of the 2014 conference, such as those pertaining to state police and physical arrangements, are steps in the right direction, noting, “The proposals that the conference adopted that there should be 54 states completely negates the idea of a vibrant federalism in a country with the history of ethnically and religiously diversity as Nigeria.”

He said: “I have maintained since 2005 on the basis of my over ten years experience with governance in over 50 countries of the Commonwealth that Nigeria cannot attain political stability and its desire of national and social-economic development unless it restructures its existing governance architecture.

This one didn't even read the article.

He said it didn't go a long way but that some recommendations are a good step in the right direction.

If you must know, we need to start from somewhere. Whatever the said Jamboree produced was aftermath of painful give and take by representatives of different ethnic nationalities, civil societies and religious groups to sustain the unity of the country amidst fear of what immediate introduction of regionalism will pose.

Step by step introduction of structural changes will bring us back to the best structures suited for optimal growth and development. This is antidote for war.

This is your assignment. Read my comments to find out.

He needs a new cabinet (ministers), advisers and kitchen cabinet with focus on returning Nigeria to path of growth. For instance, read the excerpts below

South African President’s Rare Reversal Relieves Rand Market

JOHANNESBURG—Markets on Monday welcomed South African President Jacob Zuma’s decision to bring back a trusted finance minister in place of a widely denounced appointee, a rare political reversal that exposed his political vulnerability ahead of local elections and the contest in his party to succeed him.

South Africa’s currency, the rand, rose around 5% to 15.10 against the dollar on Monday after Mr. Zuma said Pravin Gordhan would...

The rich (no matter how they made their money) are hiding the cash and are no longer willing to invest in whatever venture for the fear that Buhari will either confiscate the cash or run them down. I want Buhari to apply wisdom when dealing with business community and investors. This is not a time to scare away investors, employers and entrepreneurs.

I want him to suspend public show of fight against corruption and do it more intelligently and underground until our economy recovers.

If it's possible, Buhari should give conditional amnesty to treasury looters (though this sounds absurd) to invest their loot in Nigeria within a specific time frame and this should be done in conjunction with NASS for a legal backing.

We need to put back Nigerians to doing something reasonable with their lives (decent jobs) to earn a decent wage.

If care is not taken, what war couldn't do because of peaceful transition of political power in Nigeria may still be done by frustration, hunger and starvation.
