As part of value addition to the state’s tourism offering, Cross River State governor, Prof Ben Ayade has announced plans to build a beach resort in Calabar.

Speaking during the inspection of Nsidung Beach in Calabar South, the governor disclosed that construction work will start by the second week of September this year calabarblog.com confirms.

He said “it is obvious that as Cross River State continues to blaze the trail in tourism, we must develop our waterfronts in such a way that we find maximum value.” The governor said funding for the project has been secured with a team of investors already setting aside three million dollars for the project.

Governor Ayade said the resort will complement the 2016 Calabar carnival, even as he hinted that a boat regatta could be in this year’s Calabar Festival calender.

Ayade who unveiled a resettlement plan for the residents of the waterfront noted that “I do not believe in the demolition of any property without adequate compensation,” adding, “it could have been any of us in that slum.

As such, it is our own responsibility, divinely provided for in God’s own law that you must be your brother’s keeper.” Announcing the Deputy Governor Prof Ivara Esu as the desk officer for the project, Ayade disclosed that government will provide houses under its social housing scheme, for those that will be relocated from the waterfront.

He said the social housing scheme planned for the slum dwellers will show the sensibility, sensitivity, softness and care expected of a responsible government.

Continuing, the governor said: “Such houses will be given to them at no cost. The theory that there is no free lunch is not true. For us in Cross River State, we do have free lunch.”

Can't you learn from Lagos, why must you center every development project in calabar, what of ogoja. Nothing is in ogoja, nothing. It's a good move but spread development across the state.

Development is good no matter where. The beauty of it all is that he will provide alternative for the slum dwellers.

He should boost tourism and the state economy in a durable manner by sending all the children to school.

Nigeria is a dirty, corrupt third world shiithole inhabited by monkeys.

On the other thread they're talking about Calabar seaport. What happened to The Ibaka seaport ? Examine the map below .Does it make sense to bypass Oron and all those little islands into the interior shallow river creek to go build seaport? Now you are talking about Calabar beach resort .Is that a beach or shoreline? What Happened to the Ibeno beach which is a real sandy beach right at the ocean?
They are also talking about Onitsha seaport and Aba seaport.Everyone wants a seaport. Does that make any sense ? You think every city must have a seaport? Maybe next, you'll be talking about dredging a river path to build Abuja Seaport.
That is why Nigeria will always be a third world shiithole and black people will remain at the bottom of the barrel because you refuse to do the right thing . Foolish people !

Udom Emmanuel doesn't have to make a show of his achievements. I'm glad he's been restructuring Eket Senatorial District - the golden goose Akpabio neglected.
