This is where the problem lies - mediocrity. Do you realise that Abuja is not even an A-class city. Abuja lacks a standard transport infrastructure, including many other trappings of an A-class city. Why do you think it is a bargain chip? A number of South African cities trounce Abuja even in this. let me tell you this, the areas south of Nigeria will for ages be steps ahead of the others.

There is vast amounts of unproven deposits in the Benue basin but is Benue really part of the north .if oil is found in the Benue Basin I fear the Hausa FULANIS eliminate the peaceful minorities of the middle belt and lay claim to their land

Their oil you say I don't want to call you a clown but you need to realize there are major international oil companies involved in ND who would have to decide on whose side they'll belong cos as investors recouping their investment is paramount.

If the northerners wants to be ahead of the southerners then they should invest on something better because looking at next 30-50yrs from now the so called oil will not be such an asset afterall.Be wise.

Currently praying for north to discover oil in large quantities so that other regions can go their seperate way in peace. Nigeria is too diverse religiously, politically, economically and ideologically to be a nation.

...confirmed there is oil in the Northern Nigerian basins.
The question is when they will discover commercial find.

This will be good, as it will mean everyone comes to the table with a bargaining chip. And if they split they will soon discover that the geological play does not support the reservoir system in the Chad, Niger-Bida, NE basin as Nigeria is a big flush system which empties into the Niger Delta Basin.

That is why the Anambra and the Dahomey geologic play holds little finds.

To give you a better understanding, see the flow of the River Niger and Benue flow to estuaries in the South and particularly the SS.

Assuming that this oil is discovered in the North, will it be for the North or for one Naijeria. Again, can any SE or SSoutherner own any oil wells there? Just wondering.

Actually, the North won't secede if oil is discovered....

They still need access to the sea for exporting their oil. Secession means that they pay a hefty amount in transit fees to transport the oil out of their territory.

And imports in the North would go up in cost....because of transit fees.
