Kelechi signed his first Man City contract in 2014. It was a 5 year contract which was to run until 2019. Apart from the contract duration, the contract included certain 'terms and conditions' which i believe would have included things like wages, bonuses, squad role, etc. He signed this contract as a fresh kid from the academy so you can imagine what the terms and conditions would have been, yea?

Now fast forward 2 years to 2016. He is apparently developing into the star they expected him to become. Unlike 2 years ago, he is now a FIRST TEAM PLAYER and a FULL INTERNATIONAL with a fast growing reputation in world football! The club is obviously very happy. They say Kelechi our son, come siddon make we discuss that your contract again, before all those vultures (Man Utd, PSG etc) begin pass back door dey worry you. So they offer him a NEW CONTRACT which not only extends the duration of his previous contract but also enhanced conditions, a more important squad role and of course improved pay. Now Kelechi is very happy, Man City are also very happy to have the security of his continued services.

The club make a press release showing Kelechi holding a pen and posing in front what appears to be a contract. They announce that he has committed his future to the club. All the vultures and their agents sigh! ...and then move on to the next one.

Meanwhile.....somewhere on Nairaland people are arguing and correcting other people about stuff they clearly do not know much about.

So you mean to tell me he added 2 more years and the contract term didnt change? I said he signed a 5 year deal.. Now did he or not sign a 5 year deal? If he added 2 years to the existing 3..its still a 5 year deal. And there is no way the terms of the contract terms wouldnt change after the extension. Infact that must be tge only reason why he signed another 2 years..because it has been reviewed..wages and bonuses all changed.

I think English Language comprehension is part of the issue here and also basic understanding of football contracts.

YES, his contract at the club has been extended by 2 yrs. BUT the extension is as a result of him signing a NEW 5 YEAR DEAL which supersedes his previous contract!! Still don't understand??
