Whether it's too much to ask depends on your mum ... and your understanding of what amounts to disrespect undecided

I've seen some unfriendly mother in laws. An aunt of mine told her son to get rid of his wife for flimsy reasons and the fool did, despite the fact that they had a small kid.

According to psychologists, mothers feel like they are losing their sons when they get married. Many react by fighting the wife.

Daughter in laws can be evil too. But this one has taken one side so he'll never belive his wife's side of the story.

Nice points you made there . So let me suggest a solution . One way to obviate this could be mothers becoming less emotionally attached to their sons as they get older and developing a good solid relationship with their daughters-in-law before they get married to their sons .

That will work for those who desire peace. But am I the only person who has experienced people who just fight you for the heck of it? undecided

Well I don't get it . The son's wife is meant to make him happy with her love and solicitude . Why take umbrage when she is not derelict in her duties as a wife ? That's why I suggested that she should develop a good relationship with the lady before her marriage to her son .

It boils down to how reasonable the two are. I see your suggestion working for sensible persons.

it's either you're a mama's boy or you think she's going to disrespect your mum.

whichever it is, it's best you don't get married until you find a lady you won't threaten with such statements and grow up to be a man.
Re: "Disrespect My Mum I Divorce You" .too Harsh? by Nobody: 2:04pm On Aug 19, 2016
OP words are powerful on their own so not everyone is meant to speak when upset and i believe you fall into this category. You obviously made that comment while upset but you forgot to ask yourself what you would do if your mum disrespects your wife?

So can i ask you what you would do in that context? Disown your mum?

I agree. I lost an aunt couple of months ago, what she saw in her MIL hands, ehn.
She married while in school and was to be retained by a big company where she served, she convinced the son not to let her take the job that she can start cheating and become disrespectful cos of the good salary. She lost that chance.
They later told her to resign another job. She went into business and was doing well and trouble began again, saying the lady was using her son's head, that the man should marry another woman . She had to leave the marriage when she couldn't cope again with four children. Even after the lady's death, she still saw and talked about her like a rival.

Some MIL are like devils while some will treat the DIL just like their daughter.
Re: "Disrespect My Mum I Divorce You" .too Harsh? by HaneefahRN(f):
Back to OP. Your choice of words were too poor. Is she a disrespectful person and you think she would disrespect your mum? Don't understand why you would say that.
I would not be smiling if I was told such. So immature

What kind of talk is this. It's way too harsh. Are you threatening her or are you doing her a big favour marrying her. What happened to simply telling her, you wouldn't want her to disrespect your mum that anything your mum does she doesn't like, she should tell you that you will be in a better position to handle the issue and vice versa.
