FOREIGN EXCHANGE RISK MANAGEMENT(Part 1) 1. Risk The is the possibility that something bad will happen. 2. Foreign exchange risk This is the possibility that exchange rates will move in an unexepected manner. You can either gain or lose from unexpected movements. For example, you paid for ACCA exam in Pounds and you expect N50k to be removed from your account. When the alert came in, you saw N40k. This means that you made a gain of N10k. 3. Derivative A deriv-ative is an instrument that DERIVES its value from a specific price, interest rate, exchange rates or a basket of prices, interest rates and exchange rates. For example, you bought an option that gives you the right to buy share in my company for N100/share. This option will be valuable to you if my share price rises to N150 because you can shappaly buy for N100 and sell for N150. On the other hand, the option will have no value to you if my share price falls to N90. Foreign Exchange Futures 1. Definition The name gives you a clue about its meaning. It is a contract to buy or sell a foreign currency at a “future” date. It has the same definition with a forward contract. The main difference is that futures are standardized contracts. 2. Standardised contract The amount of the foreign currency you want to buy/sell and the future date are fixed. The future date can either be March, June, September or December. Therefore, futures are not as flexible as forward contracts.v 3. Market The market for shares is the stock exchange. Likewise, the market for futures is the future exchange. The futures exchange fixes the rate at which foreign currency will be bought or sold in the future. So, there is nothing the you can’t negotiate the rate. 4. Futures exchange’s roles i. It regulates the futures market ii. It eliminates counterparty risk. 5. Other party A forward contract is agreed with a bank. Pioneer Company(Advanced Taxation) 1. Act The relevant act is the Industrial Development (Income Tax Relief) Act of 1971. The act was actually effective from 1st April 1970, meaning that its effective date was backdated. 2. Pioneer Industry This is any industry that the National Council of Ministers(now, Federal Executive Council) says is a pioneer industry. The list of pioneer industries can be downloadedhere. The supplementary list can be downloaded here. In my opinion, you should know at least 5. These lists are included in Nigeria’s Official Gazette. The list is not a fixed list because industries have been added and struck out in the past, e.g the Telecommunications Industry has been struck out. 3. Existence A pioneer company is like a ghost to FIRS. From FIRS’ point of view, it is not existing. This is why commencement rules apply after the pioneer period. 4. Pioneer Period The minimum period is three years, while, the maximum period is 5 years. The 3 years can be increased by 2 years or 1 year. I intended to create this group on WhatsApp for the benefits of those of us, who will be writing the ICAN November Diet Examination (only skill level). Note: we are not going to be many in the group. The objective of this group is to help us to prepare ahead for the coming examination. we will always post questions(both practical and theory) everyday for the four paper we will be writing in the November diet examination. Here is the procedure or step we will be using: I will snap the questions and post it in the group, we are going to solve it, after solving we are going to post our answers back in the group (with our name for identification) to compare and make corrections. Please brothers.. my name is segcypaul,I seriously need help from you guys...I'm preparing to write case study in this forthcoming november diet...but I don't have any material to give me clue on how the reports in case study questions are prepared, the stages and how it's suppose to be arranged...and the test and pathfinders available doesn't give any clue about this..the path finder showed only the computational aspect of it...My problem is that..I don't even have any chance to attend classes for the exam..so.I m just preparing for the exam for the first time with no external classes...please any body that could help me on a soft copy of materials relating to the case study format, possibly any already prepared report to throw light on the issue above will be highly appreciated...my mail is segcypaul@gmail.com. segcypaul: There are no strict rules on how the report should look. For example, there's no mark for terms of reference and the report heading. It is your points that will be marked. You can write a report that's not that beautiful and still score majority of the marks and vice versa. I will try to upload solutions to past questions that incorporate everything stated on the marking guide very soon. |

Femmyfamous4u:If you're not qualified for exemption, you can't take advantage of it. However if you have a bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited university, you can claim exemption foe Audit&Assurance and Taxation. Visit www.icanig.org >> Students for more information. segcypaul:Buy ACCA Business Analysis student study kit. Also read your Ican study pack. There's a short review of what's expected in the examination. Do some google research for how to write a business report. You should note that there are no right or wring answers in Case Study.
