A Polish discus athlete, Piotr Malachowski, selflessly donated the silver medal he won at the Rio Olympics to save the life of a 3-year-old baby suffering from cancer.

Malachowski won his second silver medal in the discus throw, repeating his silver performance again after the 2012 olympics.
The infant named Olek is suffering from retinoblastoma, a cancer case that affects the eye which has affected him for the last two years, Storypick.com reports.

The patient’s mother wrote to Piotr for help and support and the Olympian readily accepted and decided to auction off his medal. He also appealed to people on his Facebook account to help him save Olek,
”If you help me, my silver medal may turn out to be more precious than gold for Olek”, he wrote
His efforts reportedly raised enough money for little Olek’s treatment and he said,
“My silver medal is worth a lot more than a week ago. It is worth the health of little Olek.”
